Sticky Keys is on by default. For information on configuring Sticky Keys behavior, see Sticky Keys.
The sticky key behavior is controlled through the custom “Built-in Keyboard” settings applet. The
keyboard controller will manage the sticky key operation of all modifier keys. The different Sticky
Keys modes/settings and behaviour of the modifier keys when sticky keys is enabled is shown
below:
Setting/Mode
Modifier Key Behavior
Sticky Keys Disabled
All modifier keys must be pressed and held to access modified key
functions. For instance the Shift key must be pressed and held while an
alpha key is pressed to access capital letters.
Normal Sticky Keys
Mode
Temporarily latch
modifier key when
pressed.
Pressing and releasing a modifier key one time latches the modifier key
state down until another non-modifier key is pressed at which point the
modifier key is released.
Lock Sticky Keys
Mode
Lock modifier key
when pressed twice
in a row
Pressing and releasing a modifier key one time latches the modifier key
state down until another non-modifier key is pressed at which point the
modifier key is released.
Pressing and releasing a modifier key two times in a row locks the modifier
key state down until it is pressed and released a third time.
Allow the GUI/Meta
key to not be
included as a Sticky
Key.
Because the GUI/Meta key is sometimes used in a non-modifier fashion
this control allows the GUI/Meta key to not be sticky while the other keys
remain sticky. The GUI/Meta key is not sticky by default.
Play sound when
modifier key is
latched, locked, or
released
Sounds are played when a modifier key is latched down, locked down, or
released.
To make it easier to determine the locked state of the modifier keys, feedback is provided:
● Audible. A sound is played when a modifier key is locked down or unlocked
● Visible. LED turns on.
