12. A missing or damaged discharge cover can cause blade contact or thrown object injuries. 13. Many injuries occur as a result of the mower being pulled over the foot during a fall caused by slipping or tripping. Do not hold on to the mower if you are falling; release the handle immediately. 14. a. Step back from mower to fully extend your arms. b. Be sure you are well balanced with sure footing. c. Pull the mower back slowly, no more than half way toward you. d. Repeat these steps as needed.
Service 3. Check the blade and engine mounting bolts at frequent intervals for proper tightness. Also, visually inspect blade for damage (e.g., bent, cracked, worn) Replace blade with the original equipment manufacture’s (O.E.M.) blade only, listed in this manual. “Use of parts which do not meet the original equipment specifications may lead to improper performance and compromise safety!” 4. Mower blades are sharp and can cut. Wrap the blade or wear gloves, and use extra caution when servicing them.

3. Follow the steps below to complete handle assembly: a. Pull upward on the handle approximately 8 inches until holes in lower handle (shown in Figure 3-3 deck cutaway) line up with holes in handle bracket. See Figure 3-4. c a b c b Figure 3-5 4. The rope guide is attached to the right side of the upper handle. Loosen the wing knob which secures the rope guide. See Figure 3-6. Grass Catcher 1. Follow steps below to assemble the grass catcher (if needed). Make certain bag is turned right side out before assembling (warning label will be on the outside). a. Place bag over frame so that its black plastic side is at the bottom. b. Slip plastic channel of grass bag over hooks on the frame. See Figure 3-7. To remove grass catcher, lift rear discharge door on the mower. Lift grass catcher up and off of the slots in the handle brackets.
Adjustments Handle Pitch Cutting Height For convenience of operation, you may adjust the pitch of the handle as follows: The cutting height adjustment lever is located above the rear left wheel. 1. 1. Depress height adjustment lever towards wheel. 2. Slide lever to desired position for a change in cutting height. Refer to Figure 3-10 for low wheel adjustment and Figure 3-11 for high wheel. 2 Remove wing nuts and carriage bolts from handle. See Figure 3-12.

Depress and squeeze it against the drive control to operate the unit. Release it to stop engine and blade. Your mower’s deck is equipped with a water port on its surface as part of its deck wash system.
5 Operation Starting Engine WARNING: Be sure no one other than the operator is standing near the lawn mower while starting engine or operating mower. Never run engine indoors or in enclosed, poorly ventilated areas. Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, an odorless and deadly gas. Keep hands, feet, hair and loose clothing away from any moving parts on engine and lawn mower. 1 2 Refer to engine manual for help with the engine.
6 Maintenance & Adjustments Maintenance Deck Wash General Recommendations Your mower’s deck may be equipped with a water port on its surface as part of its deck wash system. • Always observe safety rules when performing any maintenance. • The warranty on this lawn mower does not cover items that have been subjected to operator abuse or negligence. To receive full value from warranty, operator must maintain the lawn mower as instructed here.
Engine Care 2. Pull the fitting away from the handle. A list of key engine maintenance jobs required for good performance by the mower is given below. Follow the accompanying engine manual for a detailed list and instructions. 3. Unhook the cable and remove the metal bushing from the plastic drive handle. See Figure 6-4. • Maintain oil level as instructed in engine manual. • Service air cleaner every 25 hours under normal conditions. Clean every few hours under extremely dusty conditions.
7 Service Blade Care WARNING: When removing the cutting blade for sharpening or replacement, protect your hands with a pair of heavy gloves or use a heavy rag to hold the blade. Periodically inspect the blade adapter for cracks, especially if you strike a foreign object. Replace when necessary. Follow the steps below for blade service. 1. Disconnect spark plug boot from spark plug. Turn mower on its side making sure that the air filter and the carburetor are facing up. 2.
Replacing Battery (If Equipped) Charging Battery (If Equipped) WARNING: Batteries contain sulfuric acid which may cause burns. Do not short circuit or mutilate batteries in any way. Do not put batteries in fire as these may burst or release toxic materials. 1. Unhinge cover seal and lift off battery cover. 2. Remove positive and negative leads from battery, and pull up on battery to remove. See Figure 7-2.
Replacing Fuse (If Equipped) Off-Season Storage The electric starter circuit and battery are protected by a 40 ampere fuse. If the fuse burns out, the electric starter will not operate. If the unit fails to start with the electric starter, perform the following steps to check the fuse inside the battery housing: The following steps should be taken to prepare your lawn mower for storage. • 1. Open the battery cover as described in Replacing Battery.

5 Funcionamiento Encendido del Motor ADVERTENCIA: Asegúrese que ninguna persona aparte del operador permanezca cerca de la podadora mientras arranca el motor u opera la misma. Uso como Abonadora Para abonar el césped, quite el colector de césped de la máquina. La puerta de descarga posterior deberá estar cerrada. Para un abono eficiente, no corte césped húmedo. Si el césped ha crecido más de 10,2 cm. (4 pulg.) no se recomienda el uso de la podadora como abonadora. En ese caso, use el colector de césped para embolsar los recortes. ADVERTENCIA: Si golpea un objeto extraño, detenga el motor.
6 Mantenimiento Y Ajustes Mantenimiento Lavado de la Plataforma Recomendaciones Generales La plataforma de su podadora está equipada con un puerto de agua sobre su superficie como parte del sistema de lavado de la plataforma. • Respete siempre las reglas de seguridad cuando realice tareas de mantenimiento. • La garantía de esta podadora no cubre elementos que han estado sujetos al mal uso o la negligencia del operador.
Después de limpiar la plataforma, reinicie la podadora. Mantenga el motor y la cuchilla en funcionamiento durante dos minutos por lo menos para permitir que se seque totalmente el lado inferior de la misma. 2. Pase la unión de distancia desde el mango. 3. Desenganchar el cable y retire el casquillo metálico desde el asa de la unidad de plástico. Vea Figura 6-4.
7 Servicio Cuidado de la Cuchilla ADVERTENCIA: Cuando saque la cuchilla de corte para afilarla o reemplazarla, protéjase las manos usando un par de guantes para trabajo rudo o un trapo grueso para sostener la cuchilla. Inspeccione periódicamente el adaptador de la cuchilla en busca de rajaduras, especialmente cuando golpee un objeto extraño. Realice los reemplazos que resulten necesarios. Siga los pasos que aparecen debajo para realizar el mantenimiento de la cuchilla. 1. Desconecte el cable de la bujía.
Carga de la batería (De ser equipado) ADVERTENCIA: La batería contiene fluido corrosivo y material tóxico; manipule con cuidado y mantenga alejado de los niños. No perfore, desensamble, mutile o prenda fuego a la batería. Los gases explosivos podrían purgarse durante la carga o descarga. Utilice en un área bien ventilada, alejada de las fuentes de ignición.
