4-5 Cleaning and Adjusting Spark Plug
(1) Recommended spark plugs: BPR6ES(NGK)
W20EPR-U (NIPPONDENSO)
(2) To ensure proper engine operation, the spark plug must be properly gapped and free of
deposits.
(3) Remove the spark plug cap.
(4) Clean any dirt from around the spark plug base.
(5) Use the proper size spark plug wrench to remove the spark plug.
WARNING: THE MUFFLER BECOMES VERY HOT DURING OPERATION AND REMAINS HOT FOR
A WHILE AFTER STOPPING THE ENGINE. BE CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH THE
MUFFLER WHILE IT IS HOT.
(6) Visually inspect the spark plug. Discard spark plug if the insulator is cracked or chipped.
Clean the spark plug with a wire brush if it is to be reused.
(7) Measure the plug gap with a feeler gauge. Adjust the gap as necessary by bending the side
electrode (Figure 4-4).

(8) The gap should be 0.7 to 0.8 mm (0.028 to 0.031 inch) as shown.
