Consumer Cable Modem FAQ's
What is a MCNS compliant cable modem?
- A cable modem is a device that hooks up to your computer and instead of getting an internet
connection through your telephone wire (or another system), you get a connection through your cable
network (same place your cable TV connection comes from). The bandwidth is much bigger in your
cable network and allows you to get information from the internet at much faster speeds. And do not
worry, installation is done by your cable operator or computer store.
How can I as a consumer get an DAZ8811/ECM110 Cable Modem and sign up for the high-speed
cable modem service?
- TurboComm currently sells their DAZ8811/ECM110 Cable Modems directly to cable operators.
They in turn supply them to you. They either lease the cable modem in their monthly high-speed
data service fee or give you the option to purchase the modem. Please contact your local cable
operator to see if they offer the service in your area and reference our list of commercially
deployed areas.
What equipment do I need to use an DAZ8811/ECM110 Cable Modem?
- A cable operator that provides the high-speed data service
- A Computer (our DAZ8811/ECM110 Cable Modem is platform independent so it does not matter
what kind)
- A standard 10BaseT Ethernet connection (installed by your cable operator)
Can I still watch cable TV while using my DAZ8811/ECM110 Cable Modem?
- Yes, you cable wire is split at your home so both may be used at the same time.
Can I have cable modem service but not subscribe to cable TV?
- Yes, you may have one, or both.
