How to configurate Turnigy Super Brain 80A

This document is written by a consumer using Windows 7 pro 64 bit and Super Brain 80A.

Why do I write this document:

«I used Super Brain 80A with 4s lipo, Turnigy SK3 3542 800kv and APC 14x7 prop, current flow at WOT

(wide open throttle) was 42A, this couldnt be right, other people using this motor and apc 12x6 are getting

the same current. I hooked up my Eagle Tree V3 logger between the battery and the esc, removed all servos

from my RX and compared the results, well, the motor did NOT use 42A, it used 67A, it's just plane luck that

my motor didn't burn to death. I went over to the all mighty internett and searched for hours, I tried different

firmwares (4 to be exact) but couldn't get the esc to record correct values, untill I read a small post on a

rcgroups with the word «.ini» posted by 2Doggs. Since I do know a bit more than avarage about computing I

opened up this config.ini file and started to test what all the values could be used for. After playing with

some numbers I came up with something that made the recorder-graph show pretty close to accurate current

, voltage and rpm (I didn't bother with the temperature as I guess I would never reach high temperature with

my setup and the default values seems pretty ok for me).»

About the software:

Super Brain ESC's is just a plane copy of the original Hifei King Kong ESC and they are compatible when it

comes to firmware and software.

There is two softwares we can use, «Turnigy Super Brain program» and «HiFei», they are almost the same

though Hifei has the newest version.

I would recommend HiFei for two reasons, you can save your logger-graph as .jpg (picture) or .csv (excel)

and the program window is resizeable and dosent hide your taskbar.

«HiFei V4.11 setup.rar» is available at hifei's homepage: http://hifei.com (direct link-to-file). Remember to

allways start such a program as an administrator (right click file and push «Run as Administator».

Note that any flight data logs uploaded to the Turnigy software and then saved as .dat files on your pc can't

then be read by the HiFei program and vice versa.

If you need to know how to install the software, just look at the original manual for the ESC.

How to get more accurate readings for current, voltage and rpm: The ESC measures accurate values for current, voltage and rpm (as far as I can see). It is the program that outputs these values wrong, and for current it is WERRY wrong! For your information I use the software downloaded from HiFei.com (version 4.11)! Open notepad as ADMINISTRATOR. Use notepad to open cinfig.ini (for me it was located at C:\Program Files (x86)\HiFei V4.11). You will now see alot of configurable values.

I will now go into details for Super Brain 80A as that is what I use myself (12MB). So, why do we need to do these changes, couldn't just the manufacturer deliver correct software in the first place? Well, I guess that the configuresation is correct for the HiFei King Kong esc's, but not for Turnigy Super Brain esc's and HobbyKing is cheap. If not, then I don't know why, only thing I know is that by doing these changes the graph will be alot more accurate and that is all I need to know.
