Alternator Installation Instructions
- Ensure that the vehicle is equipped with a fully-charged battery
- Check for worn or cracked belt(s) and replace as necessary
- Disconnect the negative battery cable from battery. Inspect the both positive
and negative cables for damage, fraying, or broken wires and replace as necessary
(Caution: Personal injury or damage to the vehicle or components may occur if
this step is not performed)
- Remove the wire connections from old alternator. Note location of each wire.
- Loosen, but do not remove, the alternator mounting bolts. Loosen the tension on
the belt and remove it from the pulley. (Some vehicles may be equipped with a
belt tensioner.).
- Inspect the wiring and connectors; repair or replace if necessary.
- Position replacement alternator, and insert mounting bolts but do not tighten.
- Position alternator belt on pulley, and reconnect all wires.
- Set the belt tension while tightening the mounting and adjustment bolts. Be sure
to set the belt tension and torque the mounting bolts to the vehicle manufacturer’s
recommended specifications.
- Re-inspect all components are to be correctly installed and there is no
interference between components.
- Reconnect battery negative cable; Start engine and let idle for 10-15 minutes.
Check voltage while engine is running, it needs to be 13.5 to 15.1 volts.
- Stop engine. Re-check belt tension, adjust and tighten bolts as necessary.
