Use and Care Manual

WOOD FOR EXTERIOR USE REQUIRES MAINTENANCE
Although the thermal modifcation process makes our much different
than typical wood cladding, wood is still wood, and it will need
maintenance when used for exterior applications.
All wood naturally weathers and fades to gray, silvery tones
over time.
Thermally Modied Wood is designed to achieve a beautiful,
weathered look.
The two-tone prenish is a factory application attribute.
A back-brush renishing technique is recommended to
maintain the look, but it will not be an exact match.
PREFINISHED PONDEROSA PINE PROTECTIVE CLEAR COAT
There are some things you can do to maintain the wood to ensure
optimal performance.
Before the rst winter, apply a clear coat sealer to protect the
wood from harsh weather and to reduce the UV degradation.
Recoat in a clear sealant every two to three years for about
7-10 years.
REFINISHING
Renish siding to prevent a faded, weathered look every 7-10 years.
depending on the amount of UV exposure and the desired aesthetic.
Before renishing, power wash your siding to remove dirt and grime.
You may consider wire-brushing your siding before applying
a topcoat if there is a build-up of clear sealant that may inhibit
the paint or stain from soaking into the wood.
When painting or staining, renish in a solid color or use a solid
color with a back brushing technique.
A back brushing technique helps remove some of the excess
paint to mimic the two-tone aesthetic, revealing a bit of the
woods color beneath.
Back brushing needs to be done quickly after the spray application.
To maintain this look, repeat the clear coat cycle and renishing
process every 7-10 years or as needed.
VERTICAL GRAIN HEMLOCK
Similar performance to cedar and is expected to fade to silvery gray.
Vertical Grain Hemlock is a higher quality wood than Ponderosa
Pine, and it will last longer over time.
If you want to maintain the original color longer, you’ll want to
apply a clear coat before the rst winter.
