Instantly create HD DVD, DVD, VCD, and SVCD video or slideshow discs through a user-friendly, wizard-type process and specific task oriented features. You can also enhance your video by adding transition effects, text, audio, interactive menus, and many others, or print disc label or cover to make your discs more attractive and interesting.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE Notes: • You can also click any tool icon located at the lower part to set project preferences, view disc and burner information, and create disc labels. • Opening previously created project files from outside the DVD MovieFactory launcher will automatically launch the associated program. Video Disc Click to create a new project, open an existing one, or perform other burning tasks. See “Video Disc” for more details.

ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE Video Disc Ulead DVD MovieFactory's step-by-step interface makes creating movies simple and easy. To create a video disc, click Video Disc on the Launcher and select an associated task. To create a new project, click New Project. Select your output disc type in Create Video Disc and click OK.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE 9 Add/Edit Media Add Media You can add content to your movie by capturing videos, adding video files, creating and adding slideshows, and importing DVD videos. Add video files DVD MovieFactory allows you to add video files of different formats such as AVI, MPEG, and WMV into your video project.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE To add a video file to your project: 1. Click Add video files in the Add/Edit Media page to launch the Open Video File dialog box. 2. Locate the video file(s). You can select and add multiple files under the same folder. Press [Ctrl] or [Shift] to select multiple files. 3. Repeat the above process to add more video files. ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE 11 Use Remove Chapter or Remove All Chapters to delete unwanted chapters. • To use Auto Add Chapters, your video must be at least one minute long or have scene change information. • If you click Auto Add Chapters and your video is a DV-formatted AVI file captured from a DV camcorder, DVD MovieFactory can automatically detect scene changes and add chapters accordingly.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE The right-click menu Right-click a thumbnail in the Media Clip list to display a context menu that gives you access to more options. • Change Thumbnail Changes the current thumbnail display. • Reset Thumbnail Restores the original thumbnail display. • Reset Enhanced Video Removes all enhancement made in the Enhance Video dialog box. • Recover Possible Lost AV Data Retrieves lost data from captured videos. • Audio Output Setting Includes audio data when exporting video.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE 13 Multi-trim Video lets you select multiple segments from a video and extract these segments to the Media Clip list. To use Multi-trim: 1. Select the video to be trimmed in the Media Clip list. 2. Click to open the Multi-trim Video dialog box. 3. Drag the Jog Slider to locate the start of the segment to retain, and then click or press [F3]. 4. Drag the Jog Slider to locate the end of the segment to retain, and then click or press [F4].
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE Ad-Zapper Ulead DVD MovieFactory lets you search your videos for commercial intervals. Clicking this feature extracts the commercials to the media list. Quick search interval allows you to set a fixed interval between frames and browse through the movie using the set value. Detection sensitivity allows you to control the rate of distinguishing between commercials.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE 15 To manually add transition effects: 2. Select a transition effect from the list, and enter the duration. 3. Click Add to Current Position. 4. Repeat steps 2 to 3 to add more transition effects. You can use the playback controls to preview the results. 5. Click OK. Options for the Effect tab • Auto Add Effects Click to automatically add transition effects based on the scene changes or chapters of a video title.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE 3. Repeat steps 1 to 2 to add more text. You can use the playback controls to preview the result. The text will not overlap each other. Tip: To modify or delete the added text, select it in the Added text list then apply preferred settings or click Delete. 4. Click OK. Options for the Text tab • Added text list Records all the text strings that have been added. Use this list to select the text to edit or remove.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE 17 reach the point where the annotation will be inserted. Click Record Voice and test your microphone (adjust the volume as needed), then click Record to start. 4. To remove a previously recorded annotation, select it from the Recorded voice list then click Delete . 5. Adjust the volume for the original audio track, additional audio file, and recorded voice annotations respectively. Click Play to preview the result. 6. Click OK.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE Setup Menu To create menus and submenus, select Create menu in the Add/Edit Media step. Clicking Next take you to the Setup Menu step. Menus allow the viewers to instantly access specific portions of your video. DVD MovieFactory offers a set of menu templates to best fit the purpose of each menu. Custom-made menus are also easily created. See the illustration below to better understand the menu structure. In this example, Clip 1 has three chapters.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE 19 The most commonly used menu type is Thumbnail Menus. The chapter points that you have previously created are represented as scene thumbnails. Clicking a thumbnail plays back the movie starting from the said chapter point. Text Menus is a category that uses texts to represent chapter points. Selecting a text title plays back the movie from the corresponding chapter point. Applying menu templates To apply a menu template for your project: 1.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE Note: The Menu Out transition effects are not supported in DVD+VR projects. To switch to preview mode, click Go to the Preview step. Using motion menus When Motion menu is selected, the movie will use the beginning part of the video at a fixed duration instead of the first video frame as button thumbnails. The duration of motion menus range from 6 to 30 seconds. Using motion menus will increase the file size.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE 21 7. To set menu motion filter effect, click Motion Filter. Select your desired motion effect. 8. To modify menu in/menu out effect, click Menu In/Menu Out. 9. To save the menu template for later use, click Add to Menu Template. 10.Click OK. Note: To use your menu template, go to Menu template library at the Setup Menu page and select Favorites from the list. Double-click your menu template to apply it.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE Preview Now, it’s time to view your video project and do a final check before you burn it onto a disc. To preview your video project: 1. If you created menus for your project, click Go to the Preview step in the Setup Menu page to go to the Preview page. Otherwise, click Next in the Setup Menu step. 2. Click Play to watch your video project and test the menu selection on your computer.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE 23 Burn To burn your project onto a DVD: 1. Select Create to disc and specify the recording format. 2. Click Show more output options to show other output options. • Select Create DVD folders to create folders for your project and specify their location. • Select Create disc image file to make an ISO image file of the DVD for later use. • Select Normalize audio to make sure that irregular audio levels during playback are prevented. 3.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE • Recording format Select DVD-Video format to use the DVD industry standard. To quickly re-edit your disc without copying the file to the hard disk, select DVDVideo (fast re-editable) which still complies with the industry standard, and has very high compatibility when working with set-top home DVD players and computer DVD-ROM. Select DVD+VR for DVD players supporting this format.

Notes: The Burning Options dialog box The various options in the Burning Options dialog box determine how your discs are burned. • Disc burner Specify the settings for your burning device. • Drive Select the disc burner to use in recording the video file. • Speed Select the recording speed to use in burning the video file. • Files to include on disc Choose additional items that you want to include on the disc.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE Note: By default, this option is not selected to ensure maximum compatibility. • Do not close disc Select this function to create a multi-session disc for CDR/CD-RW/DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD+R. Straight Capture to Disc Straight Capture to Disc provides you with a fast way to capture videos from a video device (such as DV camcorder, VCR, or TV) through an analog or IEEE-1394 (FireWire) interface card, and then burn them directly onto a video disc.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE 27 11.Locate the starting point of your video to capture then click Start Capture. Click Pause Capture to pause the capturing process. Click Stop Capture to end the capturing process. 12.After successfully burning your disc, a dialog box appears from which you can select the next step. • Return to Start page returns to the launcher. • Continue stays in the Straight Capture to Disc dialog box for you to do another direct-to-disc task. • Close exits DVD MovieFactory.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE 16:9 DVD In addition to the standard 4:3 display, DVD MovieFactory supports 16:9 display aspect ratio for videos and menus. This lets you create widescreen videos and burn them onto a DVD disc. To create widescreen videos, click and select 16:9 from the Display aspect ratio list in the Project Settings dialog box. The video clips and menus are then adjusted automatically.

Tips: • Click Add All to include all the photos in the current directory. • Click ExpressFix to fix common digital photo problems. • Select Match slideshow duration with background music duration to make the slideshow length the same as the length of the slideshow audio. You can also select Record a sound annotation to the selected photo to record voiceover for a selected image.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE Capture source devices are categorized into three classes: Analog TV, Digital TV, and DV Camcorder/HDV Camcorder. To capture video, click Import and then Capture from Devices in the Launcher. You can also click Capture Video in the Add/ Edit Media page. Capturing DV video DVD MovieFactory allows you to capture digital video with two options: DV Type-1 and DV-Type 2.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE 31 Note: Click Expand/Shrink preview window to toggle between the expanded or original view of the Preview Window. Capturing High-Definition video (HDV) Before capturing your HDV or HD video, make sure that your camcorder (or deck) is properly detected by your computer. On Sony HDV camcorder If you have connected your Sony HDV camcorder before to your computer, check the Device Manager to see if your camcorder is detected as a DV device or AV/ C tape device.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE Capturing analog video DVD MovieFactory allows you to capture videos not only from digital sources, but also from analog sources. To capture video via an analog capture card: 1. Connect your video source device to your capture card. On some cards, you may also need to connect the audio cables. for S-video, please remember to connect the audio cable properly since S-video only transfers video signals. 2. In the Add/Edit Media page, click Capture Video.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE 33 Splitting a Video Note: This option is applicable only when AVI is selected as the capture file format for DV video (captured via FireWire card). To split a video: 1. Click Advanced Settings and select Capture Options. 2. Select Split video. Under Split type, select whether to split the captured video based on scene change or recording date. 3. Click OK. 4. Follow the procedure for capturing DV.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE Capturing video directly to MPEG format DVD MovieFactory allows you to capture video from a DV camcorder or analog source straight to MPEG. To capture video in MPEG format: 1. Connect your camcorder or VCR to your capture card. Switch it on and set it to Play (or VTR/VCR) mode. 2. Select a DVD, VCD, SVCD, or MPEG format in Format. 3. Click Capture Video to start capturing. 4. Click Stop Capture or press [Esc] to stop capturing.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE 35 2. Set the start time and total duration of the recording session. Importing DVD-Video Import video from your DVD discs and add them to your video projects. You can import all the DVD files or simply select specific titles and chapters. (Program imports track 1 audio in default.) DVD MovieFactory also supports dual channel audio input so you can include the video’s main audio channel and/or the sub channel if available. To import DVD video: 1.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE Edit Disc With DVD MovieFactory, you can modify videos and menus directly on a rewritable disc or add files and folders on an appendable disc. To edit a disc: 1. Insert the disc to edit and click Edit Disc. 2. Select the project to edit and click Next to add, modify, or remove videos/ menus. 3. Preview your video project, and then click Next. 4. Click Burn. Notes: • When editing a DVD movie recorded on DVD-R, the contents will first be copied to your hard drive.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE 37 Disc Tools allows you to format, erase, and close your disc. Format Disc Select Format Disc to open the Format Disc dialog box. DVD MovieFactory allows you to write the UDF (Universal Disc Format) file system to a rewritable disc to enable random packet writing. Random packet writing allows disc space to be used more efficiently when burning data onto the disc.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE Preferences Select to set the program's working environment through the Preferences dialog box. To open the Preferences dialog box, click Settings and options and select Preferences or press [F6]. General • VCD player compliant Select to make sure that the VCD created will play in stand-alone VCD players. • Anti-flicker filter Select to apply the anti-flicker filter to the menu pages.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE 39 • Working folder Enter or locate a folder for temporary files. • Create index file for MPEG seeking performance Improves real-time preview result using the Jog Slider. This option is specific for MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files only. • NTSC/PAL safe color Uses video friendly colors to ensure the display quality of your menus when viewed on any TV system. This helps you avoid the flickering problem on videos when viewed on screen.

Project settings Opens the Project Settings dialog box where you can view information about a specific project and customize its output settings. • MPEG properties for file conversion Displays detailed information about the selected video’s settings. • Change MPEG Settings Select the type of video setting for your project.

This opens the Project Settings dialog box where you can select 16:9 in Display aspect ratio. The video clips and menus are then adjusted automatically. Label@Once Launches the Label@Once dialog box where you can create and print labels and covers for your discs. Label@Once allows you to design and print stunning discs labels and case covers for your discs.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE • Transparency Adjust the transparency of the background by entering a value or using the slider. The Image tab allows you to adjust images in your disc label or cover design. • Brightness A higher value produces a brighter image. • Contrast A higher value makes the midtone colors stand out more. • Transparency Adjust the transparency of the image by entering a value or using the slider. • Fit to Window Click to fit the image to the disc label or cover layout.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE 43 Other options • Show/Hide Disc Click to show/hide the outline of the disc for better alignment of images or text. • Show/Hide Grid Click to show/hide gridlines for laying out images and text symmetrically. Creating custom paper templates DVD MovieFactory comes with preset paper templates that you can use as labels and covers for your discs. It also lets you create your own paper template. To create a paper template: 1. Click to open the Label@Once dialog box. 2.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE Designing from scratch When creating a disc label, you can add and customize the look of your images and text. To add a background image to the disc label: 1. Click the General tab. 2. Select Texture under Background and click Browse to locate the image file to be used as texture. Click Open. The image will be tiled on the label. To use a solid color as the base of your disc label: 1. Click the General tab. 2.

Format the selected text by adjusting the font type, size, style, text color, and alignment. Adjust the text Transparency level accordingly. 3. Click a thumbnail under Wrap text to make the text wrap around the disc label. Select Auto fill if the text is too short to make a circle. 4. Select Shadow to add a shadow to the selected image, and click the color box to set the shadow color. 5.

You can then use these as title or track names for your disc label. To design a label based on a playlist: 1. Click . The disc label is displayed in the Preview Window of the Label@Once dialog box. 2. Click Playlist to open the Add/Edit Playlist Information dialog box. 3.
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE 47 Analog DV A signal that continuously varies in frequency/quantity, rather than discrete units found in digital devices. Information from an analog source must be converted to digital in order for a computer to interpret it. Abbreviation for Digital Video, which is a very specific format of video. DV can be played back/recorded by your computer if you have the proper hardware (capture card) and software (DV codec).
ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY USER GUIDE LPCM audio NTSC Abbreviation for Linear PCM which is a high quality uncompressed audio format similar to CD audio, but with higher sampling frequencies and quantization. Bandwidth for video on a DVD video disc is lessened if LPCM audio is used. NTSC is the video standard in North America, Japan, and some other regions. Its frame rate is 29.97 fps and has a video resolution of 720x480 pixels.
