2. APPLICATIONS
The 520-10SWI3 can be used in several application(s) as de-
scribed in the following paragraphs. The 520-10SWI3 can
operate as an office repeater, a line/extension repeater or as an
NIU. The universal functionality allows craft personnel to
install the unit at the Central Office, in Controlled Environ-
ment Vaults (CEVs) or at the Customer Premises.
2.1 Office Repeater Application
As an office repeater, the 520-10SWI3 is typically installed at
the Central Office or in a CEV. The unit originates DS1 ser-
vices from the Network Service Provider’s Central Office and
generates simplex current (60mA) towards the CPE for power-
ing an NIU or other T1-type of equipment. DS1 signals from
the CPE are regenerated and sent back to the Network Service
Provider (e.g., Fiber Multiplexer). See Figure 2 and Figure 3.
2.2 Line/Extension Repeater Application
As a Repeater, the 520-10SWI3 is able to extend DS1 services
providing bidirectional regeneration of the DS1 signals. The
520-10SWI3 can be installed as a traditional Line Repeater or
