Installation on Windows Systems Driver Installation 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Make sure camera not connected to PC. Insert CD-ROM. Wait for AUTORUN start and menu window pop-up. Before driver installation, it’s recommended to update your DirectX from Microsoft (especially to Win98 users). Click on “Install Camera Driver” from the menu.
6. Follow the instruction and click “Install” to proceed. In setup type, wait for the files copy finished and click “Finish” to end. 7. Restart computer (except Windows XP system). 8. Ready to connect web camera for the first time. ►Driver window pop-up, click “Next” to proceed.
►Select “Complete” and click on “Next” to continue.
►Click on “Install” to start.
► After driver installation, click on “Finish” to end.
Connecting Camera to Your PC For Windows Vista/XP/2000/Me 1. Insert Camera USB connector to computer USB Port. 2. Watch the system detecting the new imaging device. To check the installation: Right click on My Computer► Manage ► Device Manager► 1) Imaging Devices► UMAX AstraPix PC230 shows ready. And 2) Sound Devices► USB Audio Device. Camera is installed correctly.
For Windows 98 Second Edition 1. Insert Camera USB connector to computer USB Port. 2. System will ask you to insert Win98SE CD-ROM, and copy the necessary files to support USB Web camera. 3. Check installation result: Right click on My Computer► Content► Hardware► Device Manager► 1) Imaging Device► UMAX AstraPix PC230 shows ready. And 2) Sound Devices► USB Audio Device. Camera is installed correctly.
Uninstalling Windows Driver 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Close all camera applications. Start► Control Panel► Add/Remove Programs► AstraPix PC230 ► Uninstall or Remove. PC Camera uninstalls window pop-ups. Choose “Remove” again. Follow instruction to finish uninstallation. Or you can uninstall by Start► Program Group► AstraPix PC230 ► Uninstall.
Get the Most of the WebCam Fun with Skype After camera installed correctly, start your Skype for windows to make sure camera video working properly. *Note: Skype video option requires Windows 2000 or newer. From Menu bar► “Tools” ► “Options”.
Choose “Video” from the “Options” window to check your PC Camera. Select “Webcam Settings” to adjust the image to your preference.
Choose Sound Devices, and now the microphone of camera became the “Windows default device” of Microphone Input.
Select test call and check if the microphone works properly.

Other Popular Webcam Applications Check Audio Input You can set the audio input from the USB Web Camera’s microphone: Start► Control Panel► Sound and Audio Devices Properties► Sound recording► USB camera. MSN Messenger Allow you talk with friend with live video. Also, use the camera microphone as the audio input. Go through the wizard and the camera is ready for the MSN Messenger.
Yahoo Messenger Similar setting as above, choose the camera and audio input. Yahoo! WebCam function works better across different platforms. Playing with the Video FX Special Effects The camera has many built-in special effects and digital zoom. It can be activated or selected in the Video Capture Filter Properties window. Followings are available effects.

Followings are some example of Video FX in action: Video FX Example in Yahoo Messenger A. In View My WebCam live video, use Preference to start video special effect. Choose Camera Settings in the new window and choose effect page in the new window. B. For example, choose the post card effect, and live video becomes so interesting.
Video FX Example in Windows Live Messenger From the Windows Live Messenger Tool menu, select webcam settings. From the advance menu choose Advanced, and switch to Effects page and select the effect you like.
Trouble Shooting 1. 2. 3. 4. Device Manager shows UMAX AstraPix PC230 error. ► Possible installation step error, please remove the error device from Device Manager. Restart computer and reinstall driver, reboot system, and plug-in camera to let the system detect camera again. Video stopped or went dark? ► Check if USB connection is firmly inserted, or other USB device is sharing power from USB hub. Please close current video application, re-plug-in the camera.
