vides test requirements which certify ttings for concealed installations and connections to
appliances where concealing the ttings is the only practical alternative
These guidelines address some of the known situations which may require the use of a con-
cealed tting. While accessibility of ttings is always preferred, there are some situations
where concealing the ttings is the only practical option. This guide cannot address all appli-
cations of concealed ttings, but instead provides general instructions to demonstrate the
principles which apply to ttings listed for installation in concealed locations (National Fuel
Gas Code, NFPA 54 Chapter 7).
NOTE: Manifold stations which are composed of multiport manifold(s), shut o valve, and
pressure regulator shall not be installed in concealed locations regardless of the qualica-
tions of tubing ttings.
New Installations
HOME-FLEX® can be connected to steel piping systems through threaded pipe connections.
This can be a sub-out run to an appliance connection, be outdoors to a meter, etc.
HOME-FLEX® connections to replace key valves can be located in a concealed location, pro-
vided that accessibility is not readily provided.
When multiple outlets are supplied from a
single tubing run (like in a series arrangement),
each downstream outlet branch can be con-
nected to the main run using a tee tting which
can be located in a concealed location. (Figure
4.7)
Modications to Existing Systems
New Ceilings: HOME-FLEX® ttings originally
installed in an unnished ceiling location can
be concealed in the event that a ceiling is installed at a later date.
Extensions to existing tubing runs: A concealed run of tubing can be extended with a new
pipe run to feed another appliance location, so long as their is sucient capacity to supply
both appliances simultaneously. If an accessible
location for the modication is not available,
the existing run can be modied with a tee t-
ting, resulting in a concealed tting (Figure 4.8)
Repairs to existing tubing runs: Damaged tub-
ing runs should be repaired in accordance with
Section 5.2 of this guide. The repair can result in
a line splice that may be located in a concealed
location.
Outdoor Installation Issues
The HOME-FLEX® jacket is UV resistant and able
to withstand exposure to sunlight. ANSI LC1-CSA 6-26 contains test requirements determin-
ing suitability for exposure of CSST to outdoor environments. HOME-FLEX® is certied to this
standard and is fully qualied for outdoor installations. However, to attain maximum longev-
ity of the jacket, it is recommended to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
When installed outdoors, the yellow jacketing of HOME-FLEX® must be intact along the
entire run. Any areas of exposed tubing are to be wrapped with self-bonding silicone tape or
sleeved to prevent damage from acids and chlorides.
If HOME-FLEX® is installed in the equipment room of a swimming pool or hot tub, or other-
wise exposed to a corrosive environment which could be harmful to the tubing, the tubing
shall be installed in a protective device, and any exposed portions of the stainless steel tubing
