User manual

Intended use
The product is used to generate the noise of a ship’s foghorn on e.g. suitable model ships.
To operate the product you will also need a suitable loudspeaker (impedance 4 - 8 Ohm) (not
included in the delivery, has to be ordered separately).
This product complies with the applicable national and European requirements. All names of

Safety Instructions
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by non-compliance
with these safety instructions. We do not assume any liability for any resulting
damage!
We shall not accept liability for damage to property or personal injury caused
by incorrect handling or non-compliance with the safety instructions. The
warranty will be void in such cases!
a) General
For safety and approval reasons, (CE), the unauthorised conversion and/or modi-
cation of the product is not permitted.
The product is not a toy and should be kept out of the reach of children.
The product must not get damp or wet. Protect it from heat, cold, direct sunlight,
vibrations, dust and dirt.
• The product may not be operated in explosive areas.
Do not leave packaging material carelessly lying around, as it could become a
dangerous plaything for children.
Handle the product with care; it can be damaged by impacts, blows, or accidental
falls, even from a low height.
b) Connection
The connection may only be carried out when the product is disconnected from the
voltage/current.
For the connection of the assembly kit a suitable electronic soldering copper with a
very ne tip and electronic soldering tin are required as well as the knowledge and
skills for the soldering process itself.
Improperly performed soldering leads to the damage of the product, loss of war-
ranty! In case of doubt, let a person who has the expertise and skills in soldering
work carry out the connection.
Carry out the soldering and wiring in an absolutely neat and careful way. Do not
use any acidic soldering tin, soldering ux or the like. Make sure there is no cold
soldering joint.
A cold soldering joint occurs if either the soldering joint was not heated up suf-
ciently so that the soldering tin does not have proper contact to the wires, or if
during the cooling down process the connection is moved right at the moment of
solidi cation. Such mistakes can often be spotted by the matt appearance of the
soldering joint’s surface. A corrective measure would be to re-solder the soldering
joint in a proper and correct way.
The product must only be operated when it is rmly mounted, e.g. in an appropri-
ate casing. Failure to observe the above brings about the risk of a short-circuit
which will damage the module. The warranty will be void!
Observe the information in the section “Technical Data”. The product may only be
operated via a stabilised DC voltage of 4 - 15 V/DC. The required loudspeaker
must have an impedance of 4- 8 ohm.

A Connection for power supply

audio frequency
Four cables are required for the connection. Strip the cable ends approx. 2 mm and tin them.
Solder one cable each onto the four small soldering pads. In this process pay attention that
there is no short-circuit with an adjacent conductor path.
Connect one loudspeaker to the two corresponding connection cables which are connected
with the “LS” soldering pads.
The loudspeaker used must feature an impedance between 4 - 8 ohm.
The two other cables connected to the soldering pads “+” and “-” are used for the power supply.
To be able to control and operate the foghorn via the model’s remote control, e.g. a suitable
switch is required which is connected to a free channel of your receiver.
Place the SDM component e.g. in a suitable plastic casing or in a protected position on your
model. Fasten it on the model using a servo-tape strip.
Operation
Once the operating voltage is connected, the loudspeaker connected emits an acoustic signal.
The audio frequency can be adjusted continuously in the range between approx. 160 to 400 Hz
using the small rotary potentiometer (C).
Use a plastic adjustment screwdriver for the setting to avoid a short-circuit.
Do not use the product in continuous operation otherwise it will overheat which will lead to the
damage of the SDM module!

Please dispose of the product when it is no longer of use, according to current statu-
tory requirements.
