NSTRUCTIONS:
Remove fallen leaves, scks, weeds, and other debris from your bedding area. Prune bushes an
d
trees by hand then water exisng plants.
Use a weed barrier. You can use mulple layers of newspaper or brown paper grocery bags for a
biodegradable barrier or you can use plasc or fabric weed barriers to keep weed seeds from
growing up from underneath, but you'll sll need to remove any weed seeds that get blown into
the top side of your beds by the wind.
Use a pitchfork instead of a shovel to make moving your mulch easier. Use a large wheelbarrow
for loading your mulch, it will carry more material per trip, reducing your installaon me.
Unload the mulch from your wheelbarrow in small piles around your work area. If you are using
bags, try stacking the bags throughout your work area instead of pung them all together to
make spreading faster
and easier.
Spread the mulch with a steel ne rake to a depth of 2-4 inches; mulch in excess of 4 inches can
be detrimental to your plants as air and water will have diculty reaching them.
Leave a space a couple of inches away from tree trunks and plant stems to help keep the plants
healthy and free from disease and insects. Avoid installing your mulch directly against your
home’s exterior.
When installing ANY dyed mulches, choose a day when the weather is clear and when no rain is
expected in the forecast. Water your plants BEFORE installing your mulch. Because we use only
EPA approved, non-toxic colorants, the dye will only bond to the mulch when it is dried. If water
comes into contact with the mulch prior to bonding the dyes can wash o. Once dried, the dyes
will be permanently bonded and will not wash o. Average me needed to allow mulch to dry is
24 hours.
Use a leaf blower at the end of the installaon to blow any dirt or mulch back into the beds,
smooth out the top of the mulch, and clean and smooth your edges.
Periodically maintain your beds by pulling any weeds that grow from underneath the mulch.
