BARBIE FASHIONISTAS History 2009 - Barbie Fashionistas Wave 1 Dolls This wave arrived in stores worldwide around September / October 2009. Includes six female dolls and one male doll with highly poseable bodies and names that reflect their styles and personalities : Wild exhibits animal print in her clothes. Cutie recreates the extravagant side of Tokyo. Glam loves jewels and is more subtle and elegant.
Sassy is the bold and adventurous girl. Artsy is considered the artist. Girly is the tender and sweet girl. Hottie, the male doll, was called Cutie in later editions of this wave due to his explicit sex-related name. Wild, Cutie, Glam and Girly dolls have the "Generation Girl" face mold, which was reinstated by Mattel after strong criticism recieved due to the change that Barbie had had in her face the last years.
2010 - Barbie Fashionistas Wave 2 Dolls This wave, that arrived in stores around March 2010 and that was designed by Lilly MartÃnez, includes four female dolls and a male doll: Sassy (The old Sassy and Wild characters from Wave 1 merge to form a single character, the new Sassy, who from now usually wears animal print clothes, as seen in Sassy Wave 2 doll's leggings and Sassy BFF doll's skirt). Cutie. Sporty, a new female character who loves sports.
2010 - Barbie Fashionistas Shopping Spree & Best Friends Dolls 4
This dolls arrived in stores in the USA around June 2010 and in Europe around September / October 2010. Includes two Shopping Spree dolls with a shopping basket and many accessories: Sassy Sweetie and two packs BFF (Best Friends) containing two dolls each with interchangeable clothing: Sassy & Sweetie Glam & Sporty Shopping Spree dolls Sassy and Sweetie have the "Generation Girl" face mold as well as Sassy and Glam BFF dolls. On the other hand, Sweetie and Sporty BFF dolls have the "Summer" face mold.
2011 - Barbie Fashionistas Swappin' Styles Wave 1 Dolls This Wave arrived in stores in the USA around September 2010 and in Europe around February 2011.

2011 - Barbie Fashionistas Swappin' Styles Wave 1 Gift Sets These sets arrived in stores in the USA around September 2010 and in Europe around February 2011.
Sporty has the face mold "Summer" as usual, and for the first time in a Fashionista doll she has red hair. She wears the number of Barbie's birth year, 1959, printed in their clothes again (In both dresses). Cutie has the face mold "Generation Girl" and the extra heads have the same face mold as their dolls. Sassy has the face mold "Summer" and Glam has the face mold "Generation Girl". Their distribution in Europe was irregular, the extra heads arrived around March 2011, the male dolls arrived around June 2011and the female dolls around September - October 2011. Cutie, Glam and Sweetie dolls have the "Generation Girl" face mold. Sporty and Sassy have the face mold "Summer" and Artsy has the face mold "Desiree". The extra heads have the same face mold as their dolls.

Sassy Artsy Sporty Once again Cutie, Glam and Sweetie dolls have the "Generation Girl" face mold. Sporty and Sassy have the face mold "Summer" and Artsy has the face mold "Desiree". The bodies are the same from the previous Swappin' Styles dolls.

2011 - Barbie Fashionistas In the Spotlight. In Concert These dolls arrived in stores in the USA around September 2011 and in Europe around December 2011.
Cutie and Glam have the "Generation Girl" face mold and Sassy has the "Summer" face mold. Their bodies have articulated elbows and wrists (same as the previous Fashionistas), but slightly different (pivotal) knees joints. Their painted torso lights and sounds when a button by their belly is pushed. The batteries are included inside the left leg. The song played by these dolls was used as a head for the Barbie Fashionista Webisodes released by Mattel, that were cancelled after episode 5.

Their bodies are the same than the ones in the previous Rainbow line: articulated elbows and wrists. Female bodies have pivotal knees and male bodies have rigid legs.

2013 - Barbie Fashionistas Glam Party This wave arived in stores in September 2013 and contains two sublines: Glam Party dolls and Tropical dolls.
2013 - Barbie Fashionistas Tropical Dolls Tropical line contains three dolls: Barbie Summer Raquelle For the first time in a Fashionista line, their bodies have a model pose, with rigid arms and rigid legs, which changes the original Fashionista concept of "+100 poses".
2014 - Barbie Fashionistas Style Party Dolls This line arrived in stores around March 2014 and contains two Barbie dolls and a Teresa doll. Their bodies have a model pose, with rigid arms and rigid legs. The poses of their arms are different in the three dolls. Teresa has the "Summer" face mold and both Barbie dolls have the "Generation Girl" face mold which since 2014 is slightly different to the previous GG face mold, being the eyes bigger.
019 - Barbie Fashionistas Pajama Party Dolls This line arrived in stores around March 2014 and contains three dolls: Barbie Teresa Summer 33
2015 - Fashionista Dolls 2015. Wave 1 Mattel completely changed the concept for the Fashionista line in 2015. 23 female dolls were announced in the 2015 collection which includes Barbie fashion dolls with 14 facial sculpts, 8 skin tones, 18 eye colors and 22 hair styles. The dolls were released in two waves. The first 12 female dolls and 2 male dolls hit the stores around October 2014. These Fashionista dolls have no specific names in their boxes.
Female bodies have a model pose, with rigid arms and rigid legs, which makes them less poseable than the first Fashionista lines. The poses of their arms vary from one doll to another. Their feet are also different according to what shoes, flats or heels, the doll is wearing. On their bare feet, the dolls owners of heeled shoes are slightly taller that the dolls owners of flat shoes.
2015 - Fashionista Dolls 2015. Wave 2 This line arrived stores around February 2015 containing 11 dolls. Some of them are numbered and named after their clothing style. Their bodies are the same than the previous Fashionista 2015 line: Model pose with rigid legs and rigid arms. The poses of their arms vary from one doll to another and their feet are also different according to what shoes, flats or heels, the doll is wearing.
2016 - Fashionista Dolls 2016 Mattel surprises us again in 2016 with its new line of Fashionista dolls that comes to revolutionize the original concept under the slogan "Imagination comes in all shapes and sizes" and the hashtag #TheDollEvolves. This new Fashionista line presents new Barbie dolls with 4 different body types (original, curvy, tall and petite), 7 skin tones, 22 eye colors, 24 hairstyles, and countless on-trend fashions and accessories.
