Use and Care Manual

• Container: Vanda will come on a metal hanger. It may or may not have a
small basket attached to the roots. A container is not necessary. The Vanda is
an epiphyte that grows high up in the trees of the forest with its air roots
harmlessly attached to the tree. The air roots feed on rain and morning dew. If
you live in a year-round warm climate, the Vanda can be hung on a palm tree or
light canopy tree. The plant will attach itself to the tree and you can then let
nature take its course. The orchid will be very low maintenance after it has
attached itself to the tree.
• Lighting: It is important to hang the Vanda under a light canopy to allow plenty
of sunlight to filter through. Do not give direct sunlight. Vandas need lots of light
6-8 hours a day to bloom in adequate time.
• Water: Daily watering will be required, and high humidity is recommended. The
roots need to turn bright green after watering. If they are a splotchy green, they
are not getting enough water. Spraying with a hose is the best way.
• Temperature: If you live in a place where the weather changes to temperatures
below 50 degrees Fahrenheit, do not allow the plant to attach to the
tree. Simply hang it on a hook in a covered porch or on a tree canopy. You will
need to bring the plant inside to prevent cold exposure.
• Fertilizer: Water Soluble 20-10-20 is best
