Koni Cement Tile Installation Recommendations
Congratulations on your purchase of The Koni Cement Tile Series! When
installed properly, Koni Cement Tiles will be long lasting and easy to maintain
over time. Please note these instructions are given as a guide and are not a
step-by-step process. We recommend consulting with a professional cement
tile installer and to follow all local regulations/building codes pertinent to your
area. Adapt installation recommendations as needed for compliance with
those regulations. Installation and sealing of The Koni Cement Tile Series is
the sole responsibility of the customer and the installer.
**Koni Cement tiles are unsealed. Koni Cement Tile Series is a handmade
product and slight variations in color and thickness is expected.
• Working on a small area at a time, install cement tiles with an adhesive
suitable for the specific type of installation being performed. Follow all
instructions provided by the adhesive manufacturer you have chosen.
• Koni Cement Tiles are unsealed and will need to be sealed with a high-qual-
ity penetrating sealant manufactured for cement/concrete prior installation
and grouting. Cement tiles must be completely dry/cured and free of debris
before sealing. Curing times will vary per sealant manufacturer, so please
refer back to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Wipe off any excess
sealant before it dries.
• With clean or gloved hands, apply adhesive to the full back of the cement
tile using a trowel. Lay and press the tile in place using hand pressure; do not
hit cement tiles with tools or a rubber mallet. Wipe off excess adhesive imme-
diately with a damp sponge. Do not allow adhesive to set on the surface of the
cement tile, this will be difficult to remove later and may cause damage to the
surface. If not using spacers, be sure to avoid lipping. Proceed with the
installation and ensure all tiles are level until your area is completed.
• For applying grout on flooring, make sure sealant is completely dry before
grouting the joints. Dark cement-based grout colors are not recommended
and may cause hard to remove stains. Follow all instructions provided by the
grout manufacturer.
• Mix grout as directed by the manufacturer. Apply grout across Koni Cement
tiles in a 45-degree angle using a grout float. Wipe excess grout from the face
of the tiles immediately before it sets with a clean, soft sponge and water.
Following manufacturer’s instructions for curing/drying times.
After installation clean the surface again to prepare for sealing. All grout
must be dried before applying any sealant to the tiles. Cover the area as
needed to protect during the remainder of construction.

Installation Prep
Ensure the substrate or sub-floor is smooth,
level, clean and free of dust, grease, oil, water,
loose paint or any other contaminants that could
inhibit adhesion.
Keep tiles dry; do not allow the boxes of Koni
Cement Tile to get wet or accumulate moisture.
Koni Cement Tile is to be sealed prior to installa-
tion and grouting. A high-quality penetrating
sealant manufactured for cement/concrete
should be applied to clean tiles. For the best
results, it’s recommended to test a single tile
before covering the entire surface with sealant.
Koni Cement Tile is a cement product and may
have residue on the surface. Gently wipe off the
front and back of each tile with a damp sponge
and allow to dry before applying adhesive.
As a handmade product, Koni Cement Tile will
have slight color variations. Mixing pieces from
different boxes is recommended to achieve a
cohesive design.
Before beginning your installation, dry lay your
Koni Cement Tile to plan your layout and
minimize cuts. Tiles can be cut with a wet saw
using a diamond blade. Note, using a wet saw
will disperse a watery slip-like residue, so
ensure all surfaces are protected prior to cutting
Koni Cement Tile.
