Stick Rail: Stair Panel Installation Manual

It is the responsibility of the installer to meet all code and safety

requirements, and to obtain all required building permits. The deck and

railing installer should determine and implement appropriate installation

techniques for each installation situation. Menards shall not be held

liable for improper or unsafe installations.

Posts must always be secured to the deck framing. Posts should never

be attached to only the deck boards.

Note

When cutting railing, it is important to complete the following at cut

points:

-File any sharp edges left by cutting. Thoroughly wipe and remove any

filings, grime or dirt from the railing.

-Add antirust primer to cut area.

-Be sure to remove any metal shavings from the surface of deck, patio or

balcony to prevent stains on the deck surface.

Torx Safety Tips

-Have several bits on hand before starting your installation.

-Use wood screws for wood floor installation, use a 5/16" drill bit for the

pilot hole.

-For concrete floor installation, use a 3/8" impact drill for the pilot hole.

Required Materials

Miter saw, hand drill, flashlight, impact drill, 5/16" drill bit, 3/8" impact

drill, screwdriver, tape measure, wrench, protractor, adjustable

support block, hammer.

Important - Every stair installation will be different. The rise and run, post position, and post height all need to be carefully laid out before posts are permanently installed and panels are cut. Mount posts: Deck framing -The stairs start with a 44" post(A-1) and the other end uses a 38" post(A-2). -Wood blocking tied to deck frame must be installed and constructed with treated dimensional lumber with a minimum thickness of 1-1/2".

Place the panel between the posts, and then use the counter fix screws (C) to lock the stair panel to the posts through the brackets’ connecting holes. During this step, adjust the 44” post’ location when you adjust the angle of the stair panel, then the position of the 44” post is determined.

Measure the angle of inclination with an protractor, and measure the maximum distance betweent the two posts with a tape measure along the fence beam. h t ng g Meas n ri Le u urin g an gle s ea M Use a metal cutting saw with adjustable angle to adjust the 6' panel cover sleeves (G). Cut the two ends of the two cover sleeves as shown in the figure below to suit the angle and length of the actual installed stair fence.

Paint the cut area on the two panel cover sleeves(G) with Matte Black spray paint, then apply the sleeves to the upper and lower beams of the panel in the direction shown in the figure.
