Instructions
PLEASE NOTE: Only for children over 10 years old. To be used only with adult supervision.
Not suitable for children under 3 years old. Read and follow the instructions for use and keep
them handy for reference. Keep the packaging in case of queries.
CAUTION: This machine becomes hot with prolonged use. It is not intended to be used as a
light source or for constant use. Switch the machine off if it is going to be left unattended.
Read the instructions, keep them handy for reference and follow them. Keep small children
away from the machine – it becomes hot. Keep it dry, do not touch it or the light source when
it is hot.

Safety information when using electrical products:
Do not use faulty equipment: eg if the cord is damaged or if the equipment shows damage
caused by being dropped.
If you need an extension cable to operate the equipment, make sure before you use it that
the cable meets the required standards. Cables which do not meet the local standards
should not be used. Make sure that the cable is laid tidily so that children and adults cannot
trip over it.
Also make sure that the cable is correctly connected to the mains socket and that it cannot
be inadvertently pulled out.
Always unplug the cable when the equipment is not in use, holding the plug and not the cord.
After use, allow the projector to cool down completely before putting it away. Roll up the cord
to store it.
Do not let water get into the projector, because moisture and damp can have fatal results. If
in doubt, have it checked by a qualified electrician.
If repairs are necessary, contact the manufacturer directly.
Important information for working with magnification
Please note: the machine becomes hot in use. You are advised to be cautious when using
photographs, glossy prints or original documents. Always use copies of originals. After the
projector has been in use for any length of time, the copy plate can become hot and damage
the surface. We cannot accept liability for damage resulting from faulty use. During use,
check the condition of your originals and monitor how hot the projector is.
Maintenance
Bulbs: the machine uses ordinary 60W bulbs, which are commercially available. When the
bulb fails, replace it as you would an ordinary household light bulb. Make sure the machine
has cooled down completely before you change the bulb.
Cleaning and care:
The projector and angle attachment are in a prism mirror and fitted with high quality plastic
lenses. We recommend the use of a microfibre cloth or a soft household cloth for cleaning.
Remove dust with a fine brush or blower. If these are not available, we recommend using a
small amount of lens cleaning fluid on a soft cloth. Use the cleaning fluid only on the cloth
and then wipe the lens carefully with a dry cloth. Please note – do not use pressure and be
careful not to cause scratches. Never use scouring powder or similar abrasive cleaners on
the lenses or mirror.
Warning
Never clean the projector while it is switched on. Never clean it while it is warm. Never
immerse it in water.
Using the projector
The projector has a standard 60 W light source to keep overheating of the light source to a
minimum. The best results can be obtained by using in a darkened room. The simplest way to
draw really good pictures is, for example, to fasten a piece of old wallpaper to a flat surface,
eg a door or the side of a cupboard, with Sellotape. Then wonderful pictures can be drawn on
the large sheet of paper.
Page 3
Operating instructions:
Lay the object to be copied on a firm flat surface, eg an adjustable ironing board or a photo
table. Please note: Warning! The projector must be set up near a mains socket otherwise an
extension cable must be used and must be laid safely on the floor. The cable must be
carefully arranged so that it is not inadvertently pulled out of the socket nor cause anyone to
trip over it in the darkness.
The opening of the episcope must be placed precisely over the area to be copied. When all
preparations have been completed, switch on the episcope. Finally make the room dark and
let the fun begin!
Please note:
This machine is not intended for constant use nor for use as a light source, because it
becomes very hot.
Focusing:
The size of the picture to be drawn or projected can be adjusted to the drawing area or to the
size of drawing required. Move the episcope forwards or backwards (and don’t forget the
original).
To adjust the height, move the drawing paper or the machine up or down (eg adjust the
ironing board up or down or affix the paper on the door higher or lower). Then adjust the
focus by pushing in or pulling out the lens. The episcope magnifies 2x to 10x.
Please note that the angle is altered if the machine is not straight and it will not be possible
to achieve a good overall focus. We recommend therefore that you use the machine in a
horizontal position.
The optimum distances for magnification depend on the size of the original, the quality and
the degree of magnification desired. The darkness of the room and the strength of the light
source are also important considerations. We recommend that you experiment to find the
best magnification for your purposes.

Magnification Approximate distance (measure from projection surface to centre of lens)
2x 61 cm
4x 110 cm
6x 157 cm
8x 205 cm
10x 252 cm
12x 300 cm
Using the angle attachment
The machine can also be used to project pictures at an angle of 90°. This enables you to
draw pictures on the ceiling or view vertical images. You need to fit the supplied projector
attachment onto the lens. Hold the angle attachment and rotate the adjustable lens on the
episcope until the picture is in focus. Make sure that the two parts are not hot. Follow the
previously described procedures for focusing and setting up. You will need a little more
patience, because the process of focusing will change the angle of the attachment and you
will need to readjust it. Using the 90° angle attachment is likely to cause some distortion of
the image, particularly around the edges.
Please note that when using additional lenses and reversing prisms (in the former case, the
angle attachment), the amount of light and the quality will deteriorate.
When you project images, eg onto the ceiling, you will see pictures and letters upside down,
therefore the wrong way round. Since these projections are mainly intended for viewing stars,
you will have the same view as you would get with an astronomical telescope.
Projection options:
This episcope has many uses. It is made so that a group of people can look together at
pictures, eg holiday photos; also for projecting graphics, illustrations, books or educational
material for viewing or drawing, projecting star maps horizontally or vertically to see the
constellations on the ceiling. This machine can also be used to project three-dimensional
objects, such as materials, boards, flowers, coins, stamps, rock samples and similar, in order
to mark details on the wall or to study them in greater magnification.
Please note:
Never use flammable materials near this machine. Never put down flammable objects next to
the projector (petrol, flammable materials or liquids such as brush cleaner and water
containers).
We recommend the use of a 60W light source for this machine.
