From seedling to Bonsai
Once you successfully thinned your seedlings, you may leave your Bonsai tree to grow
in the biodegradable pot, or alternatively transplant the entire biodegradable pot into a
larger pot or container. For maximum tree health, repot the trees in a new container once
a year, in early spring. What is left to do now, is to train the young seedlings throughout
the years to become well shaped Bonsai trees. There are many different techniques and
theories on this subject. We encourage you to search for additional information online.
When growing Bonsai tree, patience is key for success. It will take several years for the
trees to grow to their full size.
Additional tips:
SEEDS LOVE SUN. Place the growing pots next to a window or any other place that
is exposed to a lot of sunlight. The tree seeds in this kit need at least six to eight hours
of nondirect sunlight per day to grow. Give the growing pot a quarter turn each day to
prevent the seedlings from developing weak, elongated stems.
AVOID FROST. During the winter, if the temperature in your area reaches below
32°F, place the trees indoors and keep them warm to help them make it through
those tough months.
KEEP THE POTS IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA. This will help prevent diseases
caused by Fungi, Bacteria and Viruses.
TRIMMING: Trim as needed to shape the trees and keep it in the size you want. Do
not be afraid to prune your Bonsai; it is important, especially in the outer and top
areas, to prune regularly in order to force the tree to distribute growth more evenly
and develop a dense foliage.
Disclaimer of Liability: This kit contains seeds originated in the US. This kit
was designed as a gift, and should be treated as such. Gazuros Ltd. does not assume
responsibility and disclaims liability for non-germinated seeds arising from improper use
of this product, or as a result of factors that are beyond the company’s control.
Sow the seeds
● Step 1 - Gently break the soil using your hands and place it inside the
biodegradable pot until it is almost full. Keep a small portion of soil aside, you will
use it to cover the seeds after you sow them.
● Step 2 - Pour the entire content of the seed packet into the palm of your hand.
Some of the seeds may be very small, so be careful not to drop them. Using your
other hand, grab 5-7 seeds and gently sprinkle them evenly across the pot’s
surface. If your packet arrived with more seeds in it, you can keep the extra ones
in a sealed envelope or a plastic bag and store it in your refrigerator or freezer for
future use. Don’t forget to label it.
DO NOT sow more seeds than instructed in one pot. If you do, it will harm the
chance for germination and proper plant growth.
Step 3 - Cover the seeds with the remaining soil you kept aside. The seeds
should be covered with about ½ inch of soil.
● Step 4 - Gently tighten the top layer of the soil to make it a bit atter and rmer.
Well done!!
What’s Next?
After the seeds germinate, when the seedlings reach 3-4 inches in height, they will
start competing with each other for space, water, sunlight and nutrients. In order
to allow your seedlings to grow bigger and stronger, they will need more space.
You can do so by “thinning” the weaker ones to create more space for the stronger
ones to continue their growth. Simply take a pair of kitchen scissors or garden
shears and cut the weaker looking seedlings’ stems right at the soil level, leaving
the remaining stronger ones spaced about 2 inches apart.
After about 2-3 months, thin again to keep only the strongest seedling in the pot.
Fertilize with a low nitrogen fertilizer a couple times during the growing season to
support the growing rate.
