Getting Started Installing Your Phone Charge the Battery 1. Unpack all handsets, battery packs, and battery covers. If you need to remove a cover, press in on the notch and slide the cover down and off. 2. Line up the battery connector with the jack inside the handset; the connector only fits one way. 3. Push the connector in until it clicks into place; tug gently on the wires to make sure the battery is securely connected. 4. Replace the battery cover and slide it into place. 5.

Reading the Display The icons appear based on what you're doing with the phone. Icon What it means Icon What it means The ringer is turned off. The speakerphone is on. Entering Text on Your Phone xx Use the 12-key dial pad anytime you want to enter text into your phone (e.g. a name in the phonebook). xx If two letters in a row use the same key, enter the first letter; wait for the cursor to move to the next space and enter the second letter. To... Press... move the cursor left Phonebook/left. move the cursor right Caller id/right. erase the character at the cursor clear. erase the entire entry and hold clear. enter a blank space #.
Menu Option What it does Key Touch Have the keypad sound a tone when you press a key. Tone Answering Setup Menu Refer to p. 9 for details on setting up your answering system. Date & Time Menu Use this menu to set the clock (if you have Caller ID, the phone sets date and time automatically). Enter the date and time; select AM or PM. Use Caller ID/right to move the cursor past a digit without changing it. To confirm, press Menu/ select. Global Setup Menu The settings on this menu affect all handsets.
Finding the Handset With the phone in standby, press Find on the base. All handsets beep for 1 minute. To cancel, press Find again or press any handset key. Using the Phonebook, Caller ID, and Redial Lists xx The phone can store up to 70 entries in its phonebook. xx If you subscribe to Caller ID (CID) service, the phone stores the information for the last 30 received calls to the CID list. Contact your telephone provider for more information. xx Each handset remembers the last 5 numbers you dialed on it.

If you change your mind, just close the phonebook. Using Call Waiting xx Call Waiting, a service available from your telephone provider, lets you receive calls while you are on another call. Caller ID on Call Waiting (CIDCW) service displays Caller ID information for a waiting call.
Menu Option What it does Enter a 2-digit PIN so you can access your answering system Security Code from any touch-tone phone (see p. 12). Set the number of rings (2, 4, or 6) before the system Ring Time answers (see p. 12 about Toll Saver). Set the amount of time (1 or 4 minutes) callers have to leave a message. The system records up to 12 minutes 30 seconds Record Time of messages. Choose Announce Only if you don't want the system to let callers to leave a message.
Accessing the Answering System Press MESSAGE/MUTE to start remote operation mode. When the phone is in standby, you can access the system from Use CID/RIGHT to Use PHONEBOOK/LEFT 4:Delete any handset: go to the next to go back to the option: [ / /select] previous option: xx Only 1 handset or the base can 3:Skip 5:Stop access the system at a time. Press MENU/SELECT 2:Play xx During remote access: to choose the 1:Repeat -- The handset display shows current option OR the number of messages.
To... hear the caller leaving a message answer the call mute the call screen without answering* From the base Listen to the caller over the speaker. NA Press Play/stop. From a handset Press Message/mute. Press Talk/flash. Press End or return the handset to the cradle. * If you mute the call screen, the system continues taking the message: it just stops playing through the speaker. Using the System While You’re Away from Home You can dial in to your answering system from any touch-tone phone.
Important Information Troubleshooting General problems Possible solutions xxCheck the telephone cord connection. I can’t make or receive xxDisconnect the base AC adapter. Wait a few calls. minutes, then reconnect it. xxMake sure the base is plugged in. The handset won’t ring. xxMake sure the ringer is turned on. xxCharge the battery for 15-20 hours. The handset is not working. xxCheck the battery connection. xxLet calls ring twice before answering. The handset won’t display CID information.
Answering system problems I can’t hear the base speaker. Messages are incomplete. The system keeps recording when I answer on an extension. Possible solutions xxMake sure call screening is turned on. xxChange the base speaker volume. xxIncrease the Record Time. xxDelete messages (memory may be full). xxYou may have to change the line mode. Contact Customer Service for instructions.
