"333" REPEATER MODE SEAPHONE CALLS Vessels outside the range of direct inter-ship VHF communications can make extended range (up to 10 times greater) ship-to-ship calls by using Seaphone stations as talkthrough repeaters. And the first 20 seconds is free. 1. Choose the Seaphone channel which you know the other vessel(s) is monitoring in your area and listen briefly to ensure that the channel is clear. 2. Dial the numbers "333" on the keypad and press the Asterisk [*] button.
This willbe followed on air by an automatic voice announcement declaring" Attention all ships, emergency call received, please stand by for Sydney Radio". The Seaphone channel you are using will also be automatically switched to "talk through repeater mode".
