Terminology used in this Manual Standby The handset and the base are not in use. If the handset is on the cradle or [ /flash], [ ], or the LINE1 or LINE2 on the cordless handset is not pressed. No line has been activated. No dial tone is present. CID Caller ID is available from your Telephone provider and is offered to users on a subscription basis. With this service and a display on your cordless phone, you will be able to see the incoming caller information such as name and phone number.

Using the Interface Reading the Handset Display The handset display uses icons to tell you the status of your phone. The table below lists the icons and what they mean. Icon に Status Description Talk The privacy icon appears when Privacy mode is turned on. Talk The call record icon appears while recording a conversation. Talk The mute icon appears when you mute the handset. Talk The speaker icon appears when the handset speakerphone is in use.
Reading the Base Display The base display uses icons to tell you the status of your phone. The table below lists the icons and what they mean. Using the Four-way Function Key Your handset and the base have a four-way function key that allows you to move the cursor (or highlighted area) on the display and access the most commonly used features at the touch of a button. By moving this key to the left, you open the Phonebook. Move the key to the right to access Caller ID information. To use this four-way key, place your thumb over the key on the station and move to the four positions to get the feel of how it moves and operates.
Entering Text from your Phone You can use the number keypad on your handset or base to enter text by referring to the letters printed on each number key. When you press the number key in a text entry field, the phone displays the first letter printed on the number key. Press the number key twice to display the second letter and three times to display the third. Capital letters are displayed first, then lower case letters, then the number on the key.
Installing the Phone Choosing the Best Location When choosing a location for your new phone, here are some important guidelines you should consider: • The location should be close to both a phone jack and a continuous power outlet (one which is not connected to a switch). • The base and handset should be kept away from sources of electrical noise such as motors, microwave ovens, and fluorescent lighting. Correct • For better reception, place the base as high as possible.
Charge the Cordless Handset The cordless handset is powered by a rechargeable battery pack. The battery recharges automatically when the handset is placed in the charger. ) Connect the AC adapter to the DC IN 9V jack and to a standard 120V AC wall outlet. 2) Set the charger on a desk or tabletop, and place the handset in the charger with the keypad facing forward. 3) Make sure that the charge light illuminates.
Connecting the Base ) Connect the handset curly cord to the left side of the phone and the base corded handset. Note: Your phone has a slot to route the curly cord in the bottom of the base. 2) Connect the AC adapter to the DC IN 9V jack. 3) Connect the AC adapter to a continuous power supply (i.e., an outlet that is not controlled by a switch). 4) Set the base on a desk or tabletop. Place the base corded handset on the base.
Installing the Belt Clip ) 2) Line up the holes on each side of the handset. To attach the belt clip, insert into the holes on each side of the handset. Press down until it clicks. To remove the belt clip, pull either side of the belt clip to release the tabs from the holes. Connecting to the Phone Line Once the handset battery pack is fully charged, connect the telephone line cord to the TEL LINE 1/2 jack and to a telephone outlet.
Selecting a Telephone Line TEL-LINE allows you to set default telephone line. The line you select will be used when you make a call. If you select Auto, the phone will default to whichever line is currently free. ) Press the MENU soft key. Select the HANDSET SETUP or BASE SETUP menu, and then the Set TEL LINE submenu. 2) Scroll [ ] to select AUTO, LINE1, or LINE2. 3) Press the OK soft key. You will hear a confirmation tone.
Basic Setup Selecting a Language Your phone supports three languages: English, French and Spanish. Once you select a language, the menus on the phone will display in that language. The default language is English. ) Press the MENU soft key. Select the HANDSET SETUP or BASE SETUP menu, and then the HANDSET LANGUAGE or BASE LANGUAGE submenu. 2) Move the cursor to choose ENGLISH, FRANÇAIS (French), or ESPAÑOL (Spanish). 3) Press the OK soft key. You will hear a confirmation tone.
Activating Caller ID on Call Waiting and Call Waiting Deluxe Call Waiting Your phone supports Caller ID on Call Waiting (CIDCW), so you can see the name and On number of someone who calls when you’re already on the line. Your phone also supports O f f Call Waiting Deluxe (CWDX), which gives you a choice of how you want to handle a waitBACK DELETE OK ing call. You’ll need to subscribe to these features with your phone company before you can use them.
Activating the Key Touch Tone Key Touch Tone is the tone your keypad makes when keys are pressed. You can turn this Key Touch Tone tone on or off. On Off ) Press the MENU soft key. Select the HANDSET SETUP or BASE SETUP menu, BACK DELETE OK and then the KEY TOUCH TONE submenu. 2) Move the cursor to select ON or OFF. 3) Press the OK soft key. You will hear a confirmation tone. Adjusting the Display (LCD Contrast) Contrast adjusts the handset and base display brightness.
Adding Accessory Handsets Your phone supports up to ten (10) handsets, including any handsets supplied with your phone. Accessory handsets do not need to be connected to a phone jack. You can now place a fully-featured cordless handset anywhere AC power is available to connect the handset charger. Compatible Handsets Your phone is compatible with the following Uniden 5.8 GHz Digital Accessory Handsets: TCX905 and TWX977. Please visit our website at www.uniden.
Registering TCX905/TWX977 Accessory Handsets, or Other Compatible Handsets If you purchase an accessory handset, you need to register the handset before use. Only one handset can be registered at a time. Handsets supplied with the phone are registered to the base by the factory. When charged, preregistered handsets display a handset ID number. Handsets that have not been registered display MODELS VARY! PLACE HANDSET ON THE BASE FOR REGISTRATION OR REFER TO OWNER’S MANUAL.
Resetting the Handsets If you want to register a handset to a different base or replace a handset with another one, you must first clear the existing registration data. To clear, please follow these steps: ) Press the MENU soft key. Select the DEREGISTERATION menu. 2) ARE YOU SURE? appears. Move the cursor to select YES. Press the OK soft key. To clear other handset information, please follow these steps: ) From the handset, press and hold [ ] and [#] for more than 5 seconds.
Setting up the Phonebook Your phone allows you to store up to 2 numbers per name and up to 100 names in your handset and base phonebook. Your phone shares memory between your phonebook and CID with a total of 100 entries which are not used up by the 2 phone numbers that can be stored per 1 name entry. Once you store 100 phonebook entries, CID information will not be stored and will only display at time of new incoming calls. When Phonebook entries are full, you will hear a beep and MEMORY FULL appears.

Use the number 。 keypad, [right] or [left] on the four-way function key, or the DELETE soft key to enter the phone number 1; the phone number can contain up to 32 digits.
Finding a Phonebook Entry Phonebook entries are stored in alphabetical order. To scroll through the phonebook, press [ ] and then press . [ ] or [ ] on the four-way function key. Press and hold [ ] or [ ] on the four-way function key to scroll through the display quickly. When viewing the phonebook entry, use the [→] soft key or [right] on the four-way function key to display the DIAL NUMBER 2. To show the personal ring and speed dial, press the [→] soft key or [right] on the fourway function key.
Use [ ] or [ ] on the four-way function key to scroll through the Caller ID records or redial numbers. When you come to the information you want to store, press the STORE soft key on the base. Or press the OPTIONS soft key on the handset, and select ADD TO PHONEBOOK submenu. < ADD TO PHONEBK > appears. 3) Move the cursor to select NEW ENTRY or STORE & EDIT to add to an existing phonebook location. Press the OK soft key.
Copying Phonebook Entries to another Station You can transfer stored phonebook entries from one handset to another or handset to the base without having to reenter names and numbers. You can transfer one phonebook entry at a time or all phonebook entries at once. ) When the phone is in standby, press [ ]. Copy Selection 2) Use [ ] or [ ] on the four-way function key or the number keypad to select the Edit Selection desired phonebook entry, then press the OPTIONS soft key.
Customizing Your Phone Changing the Handset Banner Each handset will display a banner name once it is registered to the base. The default banner is Handset #1, Handset #2, etc. You can change the name your phone displays by changing the banner display. If you have more than one handset, you can use the banner name to identify your handset during handset-to-handset functions like intercom and DirectLink. The banner lets you customize the name your handset displays.
Selecting a Ring Tone (Handset only) You may choose from 10 melodies or 10 tones for your phone’s primary ring tone. Each station can use a different ring tone or melody.
Activating AutoTalk (Handset only) AutoTalk allows you to answer the phone simply by removing the handset from the cradle. You do not have to press any keys to answer the call. ) Press the MENU soft key 2) Select the HANDSET SETUP menu, and then the AUTOTALK submenu. 3) Select ON or OFF, and press the OK soft key. You will hear a confirmation tone.
Using your Phone Power Failure Operation (Line 1 only) Because the phone is a corded/cordless combination phone, it can still perform several of its functions during a power failure. The following features will function even during a power failure; • Making and receiving calls with the base corded handset • Adjusting the volume on the main base • DirectLink feature All other features are disabled during a power failure.

Making a call from the Phonebook ) 2) 3) When the phone is in standby, press [ ] to open the phonebook. Scroll through the list with the [ ] or [ ] on the four-way function keys until you find the phonebook entry you want to call. (See Finding a Phonebook Entry on page 27.) Press [ /flash] or [ ] on the handset or pick up the base corded handset or [ ] on the base to dial the number. The phone will automatically select a free line.
Chain Dialing from the Phonebook You can use the phonebook entries to store a group of numbers (up to 32 digits) that you may need to enter once your call connects. Once the call has connected you will then do the following. ) Press [ ]. 2) Use [ ] and [ ] to select the phonebook entry you want to dial. 3) Press the DIAL soft key. Making a Call with Speed Dial ) 2) When the phone is in standby, press and hold the number key [0]-[9] until the assigned phonebook entry appears in the display.
Using Caller ID, Call Waiting and Redial Lists If you subscribe to Caller ID from your phone company, your phone will show you the caller’s phone number and name (if available) whenever a call comes in. If you subscribe to both Call Waiting and Caller ID, the phone also shows you the name and the number of any call that comes in while you are on the line. Note: • If you answer a call before the Caller ID message is received (for example, before the second ring), the Caller ID message may not appear.
Making a call from a Caller ID Record ) 2) 3) 4) When the phone is in standby, press [ ] (on the right side of the four-way key) to open the Caller ID list. Use [ ] or [ ] to find the Caller ID record you want to dial. To add (or delete) a “1” at the beginning of the displayed phone number, press [ tone]. To add (or remove) the stored area code, press [#]. Press [ /flash] or [ ] on the handset or pick up the base corded handset or [ ] on the base to dial the number.
Using Call Waiting and Call Waiting Deluxe If you have Call Waiting service and a second call comes in when you are on the phone, a call waiting tone will sound. Press [ /flash] on the handset or [flash/find handset] on the base to accept the waiting call. There is a short pause, and then you will hear the new caller. To return to the original caller, press [ /flash] on the handset or [flash/ find handset] on the base.
Redialing a Number You can quickly redial the last 3 numbers dialed on each handset and the base. ) With the phone in standby, press the REDIAL soft key on the base or [redial/pause] on the handset to open the redial list. 2) Use [ / ] to scroll through the redial list. 3) When you find the number you want to dial, press [ /flash] or [ ] on the handset or pick up the base corded handset or press [ ] on the base to dial the number. The phone will automatically select a free line.
Deleting a Redial Record If you want to delete a phone number from the redial list, follow the steps below: ) With the phone in standby, press the REDIAL soft key on the base or [redial/pause] on the handset. 2) Use [ / ] to scroll through the redial list. 3) When you find the redial number you want to delete, press the DELETE soft key on the base. Or the OPTIONS soft key on the handset, select DELETE SELECTION. Are you sure? appears. 4) Select YES, and press the OK soft key.
Adjusting the Ringer, Earpiece and Speaker Volume Adjusting the Ringer Volume You can choose from three ringer volume settings on the handset and base (off, low, and high). ) With the phone in standby, press [ / ] on the four-way function key. 2) Move the cursor to select LINE1 or LINE2. Press the OK soft key. 3) Press [ / ] on the four-way function key to adjust the ringer volume. 4) Press the OK soft key. You will hear a confirmation tone.
Finding a Lost Handset To locate a misplaced handset, press [flash/find handset] key on the base when the phone is in standby. All registered handsets will beep for 60 seconds, and PAGING appears on the handset display. To cancel paging, press any key on the found handset or press [flash/find handset] key on the base. Note: If the battery pack is completely drained, the handset will not beep when paging.
Conferencing with one outside line To hold a conference call with one outside line, simply have the handsets or base join the call. Conferencing with 2 outside lines Follow the steps below to allow both outside lines to participate in a conference call: ) During a call, press [int’com/hold] on the handset or base to put the first caller on hold. 2) Press the line key (the LINE1 or LINE2 soft key on the handset, or [LINE2] or [LINE2] on the base) for a free line to make or answer a second call.
Transferring a Call Hold/Transfer You can transfer a call from one station to another. All ) During a call, press [int’com/hold] on the handset or [int'com/hold] on the Handset #2 LINE2 OK LINE1 base. The line key. The line key (the LINE1 or LINE2 soft key on the handset, or [LINE2] or [LINE2] on the base) will flash and the caller will be put on hold. 2) Use [ ] or [ ] to select the station you want to transfer the call to, then press the OK soft key.
Using Special Features Do Not Disturb (All Calls) DND allows you to mute the ringer of all registered handsets and the base. With the phone in standby, press and hold [dnd] on the base. You will hear a confirmation tone and the [dnd] light illuminates. To cancel, press [dnd] again. You can also mute the ringer tone while the phone is ringing by pressing [dnd] on the base. Note: If the answering system is off, it will automatically turn on when you activate DND.
Move the cursor to CALL PRIVACY, and then press the OK soft key. PRIVACY MODE ON will appear in the display for 2 seconds, but the icon will appear and remain in the display until the feature is turned off. Other stations will not be able to make a call and their display will list UNAVAILABLE. To turn Privacy off, repeat the procedures listed above. PRIVACY MODE OFF appears. 2) Using the DirectLink Feature A pair of handsets (or two pairs of handsets at one time) can function as two-way radios.
Making a DirectLink Call ) 2) 3) To call another handset with DirectLink, press the DirectLink soft key. Move the pointer to select the handset you want to call, and press the OK soft key. If the handset is out of range or not in DirectLink operation, the display shows OUT OF RANGE. On the receiving handset, press the ANSWER soft key or [ /flash]. Exiting a DirectLink Call To exit the DirectLink feature and return to standby, press the CANCEL soft key and then press the OK soft key. .
Answering an Intercom Page Intercom When the intercom page tone sounds, the display will show the ID of the station that is 「「 H a n d s e t # 1 paging. ANSWER ) Press [ /flash], [int’com/hold], or the ANSWER soft key (or pick up the base corded handset. To answer with the base speakerphone press [int'com/hold], [ ] or the ANSWER soft key on the base). Or press a number key, [ tone], or [#] (when Any Key Answer is enabled), or pick up the handset from the cradle (when AutoTalk is on).
Press the OK soft key. MONITOR appears on the handset or the base, and . To which unit? MONITORING appears on the base or the handset, and you will hear sounds in Handset #2 Handset #3 the room where the handset or base is installed. BACK DELETE OK 4) To turn off the Room Monitor, press the END soft key or [ ] on either handset or return the handset to the cradle. If you want to prevent other handsets or the base from monitoring the station, press the Monitoring MENU soft key on the handset or base.
Installing the Optional Headset Your phone may be used with an optional headset. To use this feature, insert the headset plug into the headset jack. Your phone is ready for hands-free conversations. . Headsets may be purchased by calling the Uniden Parts Department. See back cover page for contact information. Seven-Digit Dialing If you can make a local call by dialing only 7 digits (instead of 10), you can program your local area code into your phone.
You should only change this option when instructed to by customer service and when you are experiencing one of the following issues: Issue Problem Resolution When using an extension phone, “Line in Use” will not appear in the original handset display. Your phone should detect when another extension phone is used. Set the Inuse Line Setup to “TYPEB” or contact Uniden’s customer service hotline. See back cover page for contact information. You place a caller on hold.
Setting Up the Answering Machine Your phone has a built-in answering machine that answers and records incoming calls. You can also use your answering machine to record a conversation or leave a voice memo.
Using the Answering Machine Interface Using Handset and Base Menus You can set up your answering machine's primary features from the base or handset. The menu options of the base have voice prompts. When the phone is in standby, press the MENU soft key and then scroll down and select ANSW. SETUP. Press the OK soft key. Use [ ] or [ ] to scroll through the answering machine setup menu options. Select the option by pressing the OK soft key.
Selecting the Language You can select the language (English, French, and Spanish) of your answering machine announcements. The default answering machine language is English. From the base or handset: ) Press the MENU soft key. Select the ANSW. SETUP menu option, then the ANSW LANGUAGE. 2) Move the cursor to select or . Press the OK soft key. 3) Move the cursor to choose ENGLISH, FRANÇAIS (French), or ESPAÑOL (Spanish). 4) Press the OK soft key. You will hear a confirmation tone.
From the base To Record a Personal Greeting From the handset ) Press the MENU soft key. Select the ANSW. SETUP menu option, then the RECORD GREETING submenu. 2) Press [ ] or [ ] to select LINE1 or LINE2. 3) Press the START soft key. 4) The answering machine announces, "Record Greeting", begin recording after the announcement. 5) The message counter on the base displays "30", and then begins to count down.

To switch to the other greeting, press the CHANGE soft key while the answering machine is playing the current greeting.
Setting the Number of Rings The ring time setting allows you to set the number of rings the caller hears before your answering machine plays the outgoing message. You can set the ring time to answer after two, four, or six rings. If you enable the Toll Saver (TS setting), the answering machine picks up after two rings if you have new messages, and after four rings if there are none.
Activating the Message Alert The Message Alert feature sounds a short alert tone every 15 seconds whenever you have a new message. To turn on the message alert: ) Press the MENU soft key. Select the ANSW. SETUP menu, and then the MESSAGE ALERT submenu. 2) Move the cursor to select or . Press the OK soft key. 3) Move the cursor to select ON or OFF. 4) Press the OK soft key. You will hear a confirmation tone. Activating Call Screening Your phone allows you to listen to callers leaving you a message.
Using the Answering Machine The message counter on the base display shows the number of messages stored in memory. If the display flashes, then there are new messages waiting for you that you have not yet listened to. The answering machine plays your new messages first. After you listen to all of your new messages, you can then play your old messages. Note: Time stamp will not be heard until you have set the time.

From the base Deleting all messages ) 2) From the handset With the phone in standby, press . [ ] to delete all messages. Press the LINE1 or LINE2 soft key. All messages are permanently deleted. Stopping a message Press [ /exit] to stop a message playback review and return to standby. Not available Press [ /5] or the STOP soft key to stop a message playback. Press [ ] to exit and return to standby. Note: • You cannot delete unheard messages.
Screening Calls Your phone allows you to listen to callers leaving a message without answering the phone. You can always hear callers from the base speaker. To screen an incoming call from the handset and base: From the base ) 2) 3) 4) From the handset Press the SCREEN soft key or the MUTE soft key when the answering machine is answering. If another station is screening a call, you will hear a beep and you will not be able to screen the call.
Recording a Conversation You can record a conversation between 2 seconds and 10 minutes long from the handset or the base. These recorded conversations are treated just like regular messages. When the answering machine is full, FULL will appear on the base display and recording will be terminated. You can not record 3-way calls or intercom conversations with this feature.
Recording a Voice Memo The voice memo feature allows you to record messages that are between 2 seconds and 4 minutes long. You might want to use this feature to leave messages for other members of your household instead of written notes. The answering machine announces "Record memo message." Begin your message after this announcement and a beep.
Message Alert The Message Alert feature sounds a short alert tone whenever you have a new message. When a new message is received and Message Alert is on, the alert tone will sound every 15 seconds. Set the Message Alert to on or off by using MENU. To activate the message alert, see page 60 for details. When all new messages are played back (see page 63), the Message Alert tone will automatically deactivate. The tone will not deactivate until all new messages are played back.
Remotely Operating Your Answering Machine You can access your answering machine while you are away from home to check, play, delete messages, or even record a new greeting message or to turn your answering machine on and off. To operate from a remote location, use any touch-tone telephone and follow these steps: ) Call your telephone number and wait for the answering machine to answer. If the answering machine is off, it will answer after about 10 rings and a series of beeping sounds.

Battery Replacement and Handling With average use, your phone’s battery should last approximately one year. To order replacement batteries, please contact Uniden’s Parts Department. The contact information is listed on the back cover page. Cleaning the Battery Contacts To maintain a good charge, clean the charging contacts on the handset once a month. Dampen a cloth with plain water. Gently rub the damp cloth over the charging contacts until all visible dirt is removed.
Low Battery Alert When the battery pack is very low, the phone is programmed to eliminate functions in order to save power. When Low Battery appears in the display and the phone is in standby, none of the keys will operate. If you are on a call, complete your conversation as quickly as possible, and return the handset to the charging cradle. The battery pack needs to be charged when the empty battery icon appears.
Troubleshooting Resetting the Handset You may need to reset your handset in the following instances: • You lose a handset and purchase a new one. When you try and register to your existing base you get registration failure. • You are unable to register any handsets to the base. • You had a base which needed to be exchanged by the manufacturer. When you register your existing handsets to the base, the handsets say #3 and #4, but you only have 2 handsets.
Resetting the Handset without the Base If your original base is not available for some reason (for example, it is lost or somehow incapacitated), you can still reset the handset and use it with another base. ) Press and hold [ ] and [#] for more than 5 seconds. 2) Move the cursor to select BASE UNAVAILABLE and then press the OK soft key. Base Unavailable BASE UNAVAILABLE appears. Yes 3) Move the cursor to select YES, and then press the OK soft key. ARE YOU SURE? N o BACK DELETE OK appears.

Symptom Suggestion The charge light won’t illuminate when the handset is placed in the cradle. • Make sure the AC adapter is plugged into the charger and wall outlet. • Make sure the handset is properly seated in the cradle.
Symptom Suggestion Severe noise interference. • Keep the handset away from microwave ovens, computers, remote control toys, wireless microphones, alarm systems, intercoms, room monitors, fluorescent lights, and electrical appliances. • Move to another location or turn off the source of interference. The Caller ID does not display. • The call was placed through a switchboard. • Call your telephone provider to verify your Caller ID service is current. There may be a problem with your Caller ID service.
Symptom Suggestion There is no sound on the base or handset speaker during call monitoring or message playback. • Adjust the speaker volume on the base or handset. • Make sure the call screen feature is set to on. Cannot access remote features from another touchtone phone. • Make sure you are using the correct PIN number. • Make sure that the touch-tone phone you are using can transmit the tone for at least two seconds. If it cannot, you may have to use another phone to access your phone.
Liquid Damage Moisture and liquid can damage your cordless phone. Follow the suggestions below if your phone gets wet. Exterior If the handset or base is exposed to moisture or liquid, but only the exterior plastic housing is affected, wipe off the liquid, and use as normal. Interior If moisture or liquid has entered the plastic housing (i.e. liquid can be heard in the phone or liquid has entered the handset battery compartment or vent openings on the base): Handset: .
