INSTALLING NEW RETURN AND SUPPLY
FUEL LINES
See Figures 1 - 3.
To determine the length and diameter of the fuel lines needed for
your tool, refer to the replacement parts list provided by the tool’s
manufacturer.
Place the unit with the supply and return fuel lines facing you
as shown. For better access and visibility, it may be neccesary
to remove the air box cover.
NOTE: Refer to the Operator’s Manual for your string trimmer
or power head for instructions on airbox cover removal.
For most models, the line on the bottom of the carburetor with
the filter attached is the supply fuel line. The fuel line coming
from the top of the carburetor is the return line.
NOTE: Replace supply and return fuel lines with the correct sized
replacement line.
To remove the old supply line/filter OR old return line:
Remove the fuel cap.
Detach the fuel line where it connects to the carburetor. Using
caution to not damage the fuel tank, cut old fuel line as close
as possible to the fuel tank. With a blunt instrument, push the
remaining cut fuel line into the fuel tank.
Pull the return line or the supply line/filter out of the tank.
NOTE: It may be helpful to use a tool such as the removal/
installation tool or needle nose pliers to pull the old supply fuel
line/filter to the outside of the tank.
To install the new supply line/filter:
Soak new supply line in warm water until it softens. Dry supply
line completely before use.
Carefully remove the fuel filter from the old supply line and install
it onto the end of the new supply line.
Gently stretch the new supply line.
Thread the removal/ installation tool into the fuel line holes at
top of the tank and out of the fuel cap opening. Hook the end
of the tool into the hole on the tapered end of the new fuel line.
Pull the tool, with the fuel line attached, slowly and firmly through
the tank and up through the hole.
Trim the fuel line to the proper length. Before trimming, make
sure the filter will rest in the lowest point of the fuel tank.
Install the fuel line securely onto the bottom (lower) connection
on the carburetor.
To install the new return line:
Thread the removal/installation tool into the fuel line holes at top
of the tank and out of the fuel cap opening. Hook the end of the
tool into the hole on the tapered end of the return line. Pull the
tool, with the fuel line attached, through the tank and up through
the hole.
Trim the return line to the proper length. The line should extend
1/2 in. inside the tank.
Install the return line securely onto the top (upper) connection
on the carburetor.
Securely replace fuel cap.
Reattach the spark plug wire.
WARNING:
Check for fuel leaks after completing installation of fuel line. Any
part that is leaking fuel is a fire hazard and must be replaced or
reinstalled immediately. If you find any leaks, correct the problem
before using the product. Failure to do so could result in a fire
that could cause serious personal injury.
