To Whom It May Concern:
Wirsbo hePEX™ tubing, traditionally used in radiant heating applications,
became certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 61 for potable water (pw)
applications on Dec. 16, 2012. We added the following marking on our print
stream on all Wirsbo hePEX tubing beginning Dec. 28, 2012:
“cNSFus pw-rfh ASTM F876/877
This tubing also now carries the PEX 5006 designation, meaning that it meets
the ASTM requirements for continuous exposure to hot, chlorinated water.
While the official NSF listing date for potable water is Dec. 16, 2012, all
Wirsbo hePEX tubing in our current supply chain has the same formulation as
the pw-listed tubing even though the print stream may not reflect the
listing. In fact, we have used the same formulation for years. It was only
recently that we received the NSF listing.
Why a dual listing? We will continue to market Uponor AquaPEX
®
tubing for
potable systems. The only difference between Uponor AquaPEX tubing and
Wirsbo hePEX tubing is that we apply an oxygen barrier to the latter, which is
required in radiant heating applications.
The addition of the NSF potable water listing for Wirsbo hePEX tubing is
valuable for our product installers and contractors as it will help eliminate
jobsite waste. For example, excess lengths of Wirsbo hePEX tubing that are
too short to be used in traditional radiant loops can now be used in plumbing
applications that require an NSF listing. This aligns well with Uponor's green-
building practices.
