Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need boiler protection?
Some boilers do not allow condensing
and must operate at temperatures
above 135°F (57.2°C). Refer to
the boiler manufacturer’s operating
manual to determine if boiler
protection is required. Refer to the
Uponor Three-way Mixing Valve
Installation Guide to enable or
disable this function.
Do I need to have an outside
air temperature sensor?
No. If there is no outside air
temperature sensor wired to the
Three-way Mixing Valve (or if
the sensor fails) the Three-way
Mixing Valve will use 32°F (0°C)
as a fixed reference.
How is the supply water reset?
When the outdoor air temperature
drops 1°F, the supply temperature
will increase from 0.2°F to 2.2°F as
determined by the reset dial on top
of the actuator.
Why is the valve not open when
the thermostat is calling for heat?
There is a supply sensor failure or the
Three-way Mixing Valve is in boiler
protection mode. Refer to the
Three-way Mixing Valve Installation
Guide for troubleshooting.
Why do I need reset control?
When the outdoor air temperature
decreases, the heat loss increases,
requiring more heat to satisfy the heat
load. As the outdoor temperature
increases, the heat loss decreases.
Reset provides an efficient automatic
optimized control of the supply water
to prevent inadequate heating or
overshooting space temperatures
as the load changes.
Can I use the Three-way
Mixing Valve on baseboard
radiators or fan coils?
Yes. Refer to the Three-way Mixing
Valve Installation Guide to configure
the proper operating temperatures
for the specific equipment.
Do I need to have another
controller to modulate the valve?
No. The Uponor Three-way Mixing
Valve is a complete packaged valve
controller. Wiring the Three-way
Mixing Valve through an end
switch or to the heating terminal
of the thermostat will enable the
valve functions.
