Urban traffic
z Freque nt driving o ff a nd st opping fo r
example at traffic lights, in stop- and-go
traffic or traff ic queues greatly inc rea ses
average f uel c onsumption.
z Pla n c arefully to avoid traffic congestion .
Good anticipation avoids un necessa ry
stopping.
If possible, select roads with a good traffic
flow.
By keeping a safe distance from the veh icle
in front and by not lane-hopping you will be
able to avoid frequent braking and
acce le ra tion, w hich uses up a lot of fuel.
High speed
z The higher the speed the greater the fuel
con sumption. At top spee d you consu me a
great deal of fue l.
z Slightly releasing t he acc elerator pedal
results in distinct fuel savings with no major
loss of speed.
Drive a t no more than aroun d th re e qu arter s
of maximum speed and you will use up to
50 % less fuel, without losing a great deal
of time.
Tyre inflati on pressure
z Inadequate tyre pressure, le ading to h igher
road resistance, costs money in two ways:
for more fuel and in creased tyre wea r.
z Regular checks (every 14 days) pay off.
Electrical loads
z The power consumption of electrical
equipmen t increases fuel consumption.
z Switch off all auxiliary electrical loads (e.g.
heated rear window, heated seats 3 ) when
not ne eded.
Automatic transmission
z Full throttle, kickdown, the sporty driving
progra mme and unnece ssary manual
chan ging of gears a ll severe ly increase f uel
consumption.
z Once D has been selected, the economy
driving programme is operative. Position D
is generally ideal for driving. If the
ac celerator pedal is depressed gently an d
evenly, the transmission will shift into fuel-
saving gears at an early stage.
Loading
z Unnece ssary weight increase s fuel
consu mpt ion , especially wh en ac celerat ing
(u rban traffic). A load of 100 kg can
inc re ase f uel c on sumption in urban traffic
by up to 0.5 l/100 km.
z Reduce the loads you carry.
Roof racks, ski-holders
z Roof racks and ski-holders can increase
fuel consumption by approx. 1 l/100 km
due to the increased air resistance.
z Remove them if they are not being used.
Repair and maintenanc e
z Improper repairs or adjustment and
maintenance work can increa se fuel
co nsumpt ion. D o not ca rry out work on th e
engine yourself.
z Having repairs and maintenance carried
out by a Vauxhall Dealership can save fuel.
Extreme driving conditions
z Going up steep slopes, driving on poor
roads, cornering, pulling a trailer/caravan or
winter driving all increase fuel
co nsumpt ion.
Fu el c onsumption increase s dr amat ic ally in
urban traffic and at winter te mperatures,
especially on short trips whe n the engine
operat ing te mperature is not rea che d.
z Follo w the hints given a bove to kee p
co nsumpt ion to a minimu m under su ch
conditions.
