Trend-setting technology
When developing and manufacturing your
vehicle, Va uxhall used e nvironme nt-friendly
and in the ma in recyclable materials. Th e
production methods used to make your
vehicle are like wise en vironmentally f rien dly.
Recycling of production wastes keeps the
circula tion of material closed. Reduction of
energy and wa ter requirements a lso helps to
co nse rve na tu ral resource s.
The advance d de sign makes it easier to
dismantle the vehicle at the en d of its service
life and separate mat eria ls for recycling.
Mate rials su ch as asbe stos and cadmium are
not used. The refrigerant in the electronic air
conditioning system is CFC-free.
New painting techniqu es employ wat er as a
solvent.
The pollutants contain ed in exhaust gas are
re duced in the ca se of both petrol a nd diesel
engines.
As a Vauxh all driver, you can make a major
contribution to protecting the en vironment:
z Save fuel when driving. The previous
section, entitled "Saving Fuel", gives you
numerous useful hints on this.
z Be conscious of the environment when
driving. The following section gives you
some further valuable hints in this regard.
Environment-conscious driving
z High noise levels and exhaust emissions
are often a result of driving wit hout due
attention to the en vironment.
z Reduce the noise level and e xhau st
emissions by adopting an environment-
conscious driving style. This is extreme ly
worthwhile and improves the quality of life.
"Jackrabbit" starts, i.e. screeching of tyres
and high re vs, ca n increase the noise level
up to four times over.
Selec t the nex t higher gear as soon as
possible. A vehicle travelling at 30 mph
(50 km/h) in second gear c ause s just as
much noise as thre e vehicles driven at
30 mph (5 0 km/h) in fourt h g ear.
Warming up
z Driving at full throttle or idling when the
engine is still cold increases fuel
co nsumpt ion, exh aust emissions an d
noise .
z Drive off imme diat ely after starting. Warm
up t he engine by ru nn in g it at mode ra te
engine speeds.
