Uniform speed
z Hectic driving significantly increases noise
and exhaust emissions.
z Do not acce le ra te and brake un ne cessa rily.
Drive at uniform spee d.
If you drive as of ten as possible in top ge ar,
and in urban traffic where possible select
fourth gear at speeds of 30 mph (50 km/h)
and above , a nd if you select the nex t higher
gea r as soon as possible, only changing
do wn wh en t he e ngine is no lon ger runn ing
perfectly smoothly, you will reduce the
noise impact on the environment many
times over.
Urban traffic
z Freque nt driving o ff a nd st opping fo r
example at traffic ligh ts – greatly increase s
the noise level.
z Avoid unnecessary stops by always
anticipa ting t he driving conditions ahea d.
If possible, select roads with a good traffic
flow.
Keep a saf e distance from the vehic le in
front and avoid unnecessary braking and
acce le ra tion.
Drive c on siderat ely, e speciall y in re siden tial
areas and particularly at night.
Hi gh spee d
z At top speed you cause excessive noise.
As speed increases, so does tyre and wind
noise. In top gear, tyre noise determines
the level of driving noise from spee ds as
low as 45 mph (70 km/h). A vehicle
travelling at 90 mph (150 km/h) causes just
as much noise a s four vehicles travelling a t
60 mph (100 km/h) or ten vehicles travelling
at 4 5 mph ( 70 km/h).
z Avoid travelling at high speeds by carefully
planning your journeys.

z Close doors quietly. Be considerate,
espec ia lly in residential areas and
particularly at night.

driving will impair the performance of your
vehicle and shorten its service life.
z Drive your vehicle at various speeds,
making good use of all gears. Depress the
acc elerator pedal a ma ximum of around
three quarters of the available pedal travel.
Do not use full throttle.
Do not drive faster than three qu arters of
maximum speed.
Never allow the engine to labour a t low
revs.
