Fuel consumpt ion
Fuel c on sumption is det ermined un der
specific driving conditions – see page 220.
Spec ia l equipment increa ses the weight of
the veh icle. As a result, they can increa se fuel
consu mption a nd reduce the spec ifie d spee d.
For the first few thousand miles/kilometres,
frict ion be twee n the engine and tra nsmission
components is higher. Th is increases fuel
consumption.
Fuel for pet rol en gines
Commercially available high-quality fuels are
suitable (catalytic converter, see page 148,
octan e numbers, see pag es 216, 21 7). Fu el
quality has a decisive influence on the power
output, running quality and service life of the
engine. The a dditives contained in the f uel
play an important role in t his regard. You
should therefore only use high- quality f uels
con ta ining additives.
Fuel with too low an octan e number can
cause pinking. Vauxhall cannot be held liable
for resu ltant da ma ge .
Petrol with a higher octa ne number ca n
always be u sed.
Pump nozzle s for leaded fuel cannot be
inserte d into the filler n eck of vehicles that
operat e on unlea de d fuel.
The ignition timing is automatically adjusted
according to the grade of fuel u sed (octane
number) – see pages 216, 217.
Use of petrol with an octane rating of 95 will
ensure ec on omical driving.
Fuel for diesel engines
Diesel engines must be operat ed only on
commercially ava ila ble diesel f uel meeting the
sp ec if ic at io ns of DIN EN 5 90 . D o no t u se
marine die sel fuel, fuel oils or entirely or
partially plant-based diesel fuels, such as
rape seed oil or bio diesel, A quazole and
similar diesel-w ater emulsions.
The flow and f ilterability of diesel fuel are
temperature-dependen t.
Diesel f uels wit h improved low-temperature
properties are theref ore available on the
market during t he winte r months. Make sure
t hat you f ill th e tan k with winter fue l bef ore th e
start of the cold weather se ason.
Use of diesel fuels with manufa cture r-
guaranteed winter properties, as we ll a s the
outside temperature-sensitive heated diesel
fuel filter, eliminates the need for additive s.
