Catalytic converter for petrol
engines
3
Leaded fuel will damage the catalytic
converter and parts of the electronic system,
thereby rendering them inoperative .
On vehic le s with a catalytic conve rter, the fuel
tank filler neck is of a narrow design so that a
dispensing pump for le aded fuel cannot be
in ser te d.
Damage to the ca ta lytic converter or the
vehicle may re sult if the f ollow ing points are
not observed:
z Consult a Vaux hall Dealersh ip as quickly as
possible in the event of misfiring, irregular
engine running following a cold start, a
signi f ic ant l o ss of en gi ne powe r or o th er
un usua l malf unc tio ns whic h may indic ate a
fault in the ignition system. I f necessa ry,
driving may be contin ued for a short time a t
a low speed and with a low engine speed.
Irregular engine running and a loss of
engine power when the Traction Control
system 3 or the Elec tronic Stability
Program 3 come into action are
determined by the operating conditions
and are therefore of no significance – see
pages 152, 154.
z If u nburn t f uel e nters th e c ata lytic
converter, this may result in overh eatin g
and irreparable damage to the catalytic
converter.
You shou ld therefore avoid unnece ssarily
long use of the starter when starting of f,
runn ing th e tank dry ( an irregu lar fu el
supply will lead to overh eating) an d starting
the en gine by pushing or tow ing.
