Foot br ak e
The foot bra ke comprises two separate brak e
circuits.
If a brake circuit fails, the vehicle can still be
braked using the other bra ke circu it.
Howe ver, in this case th e braking effect doe s
not occur until the pedal is depressed a long
way. Considerable f orce must also be use d.
The braking distance increases. Obtain the
assistance of a Vaux hall Dealership bef ore
continuing to drive.
To ensure that full pedal travel can be utilised,
especially if there is a fault in one of the brake
circ uits, there mu st be no mats in the pe da l
area.
With the e ngine stopped the servo assistance
is disc on tinued a fter the brak e pedal has been
depresse d once or twic e. The bra king action
will not be reduced but increased foot
pressure will be ne cessary. Take extra ca re
when the vehicle is be ing towed.
Check the brake lamps before starting out on
an y jo urne y. On ve hicles with ch eck co nt rol 3
the brak e lamps are c hecked automatic ally;
see page 40.
Just before starting any journey, check
effectiveness of brake system at slow speed
an d with ou t obstruc ting mo vin g tr af fic,
particularly if brakes are wet, e.g. after driving
through a car wash.
The brake fluid level should be checked
regularly, see page 204.
