Tyre inflation pressure
In crease tyre pressure on the tow in g vehicle
to maximum load pressure, see pages 225,
226. Also check the pressure of the tyres on
the trailer wheels and the spare wheel.
Driving characteristics, towing tips
In the case of ca ra vans/trailers with brake,
attac h breakaway stopping cable to eye:
Saloon
Eye t o lef t of coupling housing .
Estate
Eye to righ t of coupling housing.
Before attach ing the c aravan/traile r, lubricate
the ball of the caravan/trailer towing device.
However, do not do so if a stabiliser, which
acts on t he coupling ball, is bein g used to
da mp sn aki n g.
Handling is greatly influen ced by the loading
of the caravan/trailer. Loads should therefore
be secured so that they ca nnot slip a nd be
plac ed in the centre of the c aravan/traile r if
possible , i.e. above the a xle.
Ge nuin e Vau xha ll A cce ssories wh ic h c an be
subsequen tly fitted aid trailer operation, e. g.
large mirrors for wide caravans/trailers.
When pulling trailers whose stability on the
road is low, speeds should be kept below
50 mph (80 km/h); the use of a stabiliser is
recommended to da mp snaking.
Do not drive faster than 50 mph (80 km/h) if
possible, even in c ountries w here higher
speeds are permitted.
Make sure that you have enough room when
cornering and avoid sudde n manoeuvres.
If the c aravan/trailer starts to sway, drive
more slowly, do not at tempt to cor re ct th e
steering. Brake sharply if necessary.
The cooling fan is driven electrica lly. Its
cooling capa city is thus not dependen t on the
engin e spee d. At high engine spee ds a lot of
heat is produce d and a t low engine speeds
correspondingly less heat is produced.
