Frost protection and corrosion protection
Before the start of the c old weather season,
have a Vauxhall Dealership che ck the c oola nt
for correc t concentration using a calibrated
hydrometer. Th e anti-f re eze conten t must
guaran te e f ro st prot ection dow n to –2 8 °C. A n
insufficient concentration will reduce frost
and corrosion protection. A dd anti-freeze if
necessary.
If coolant loss is topped up with water, have
concentration chec ked and a dd a nti-freeze if
necessary.
Coolant level
Hardly any losses occur since the cooling
system is sealed and it is thus rarely
necessary to top up the coolant.
The coolant level in the expansion tank should
be slightly above the KALT/COLD mark when
the system is cold. It rises at engine operating
temperature and drops again when the engine
cools down. If the level falls below the mark,
the coolant should be topped up to a little
over t he mark.
Top up anti-freeze . If no an ti-f reeze is
available, top up with clean tap water. If tap
water is unavailable, distilled water can be
used.
After topping up with tap or distilled water,
have the anti-free ze concentration checked,
and anti-free ze added if nece ssary, by a
Vauxhall Dealership. Have the cause of the
coolant loss remedied.
When closing, tighten coolant filler cap as far
as it will go.
Coolant temperature
For physical reasons, the engine temperature
gauge shows th e c oolant temperature only if
the coolant leve l is adequate.
During operation the system is pressurized.
The temperature may therefore rise to over
100 °C.
If the temperature gauge enters the red
(warning) zone or coolant temperature control
indicator W lights u p, check the coolant le vel
immediately.
z Coolant level too low:
Top up c oola nt. Pay strict attention to the
in stru ctions g iven unde r "An ti-free ze an d
corrosion protection " and " Coola nt level".
Consult a Vauxhall De alership to determine
the ca use of coolant loss.
z Coolant level OK:
Consu lt a Vau xhall Deale rship to have th e
cause of th e increase d coolant te mperature
eliminated.
Allow en gine to cool down before removing
coolant filler cap. Remove filler cap
ca re fully so t hat pressure c an escape
slow ly, otherwise th ere is a risk of scalding.
