49 MHz Wireless Band
Monitor Receiver
Explore weak wireless signals from miles around!
The 49-MHz consumer wireless band
is teaming with signals from baby
monitors, cordless phones,
walkie-talkies, remote control
boxes, wireless intercoms, and
much more. If you ever wanted to
explore this especially-active portion of
the radio spectrum, this kit’s for you.
The VEC-1016K makes a great add-on
baby monitor or test receiver, and with
the addition of an outdoor antenna, it
pulls in weak wireless signals for miles
around -- just like the best commercial
scannder and monitor receivers!
Building the VEC-1016K provides excel-
lent hands-on electronics experience.
Detailed step-by-step assembly instructions guide you through each
stage of construction, and clearly-presented alignment procedures
ensure top performance without need for expensive test equipment.
Convenient electronic tuning covers just the 49-MHz band, with no
need to enter long strings of microprocessor commands to get the cov-
erage you want. Once tuned to an active channel, your radio’s “tail-
free” squelch mutes background noise between transmissions. The
VEC-1016K consumes minimal energy runs for many hours from its
self-contained 9-volt flat-pack, alkaline battery. Plug in a 8 Ohm speak-
er or use headphones for loud-and-clear reception. All circuitry is self-
contained on a rugged 3x3.2 inch pc board.
Skill Level: Intermediate Requires more involved construction, you
may use some test gear for final adjustment or tuning.
VEC-1000KC, $14.95. All metal matching cabinet for 49 MHz
Wireless Band Monitor Receiver. Includes knobs, hardware, and rubber
feet. Has brushed aluminum looking front panel decal.

Gather news first hand -- tune in local fire, police, etc.
If you like prowling the airwaves to gather news first-hand, the VEC-
1012K is the perfect kit for you!
Tune in local fire, police, ambu-
lance, public service, commercial
business, and marine traffic as you
search for real-life on-air drama.
Before you know it, you’ll master 2-way
radio lingo, special operating procedures
and police 10-codes as you ferret out the
“real story” behind the news! You’ll also
master hands-on electronic construction
skills. Detailed step-by-step assembly
instructions guide you through each stage,
and clearly presented alignment procedures
ensure top performance without need for
expensive test equipment. Your receiver is
built around a Motorola IC designed especially for narrow band FM
communication radios, so it’s guaranteed to pull in weak signals -- just
like the best commercially built scanners and two-way transceivers.
Electronic tuning lets you scan the band quickly for activity without
need for entering complex strings of microprocessor commands. And,
once you’ve found the action, your radio’s fully adjustable “tail-free”
squelch eliminates annoying background noise between transmissions.
