Installation instructions for floor registers
Step 1 - Measure the opening over which the grille/register needs to be installed. For round
openings measure the diameter in inches. For rectangular openings measure the width and
length of the opening in inches. For square openings, measure one of the sides in
inches. Approximate dimensions are fine as the opening may not have clean edges.
Step 2 - The duct opening can be up to 1/2 inch smaller than the listed size of the grille, register
or diffuser to be installed but never more than the listed size. For 12x6 register, the minimum
opening needs to be approximately 11 1/2 inches in width and 5 1/2 inches in height. The listed
size is 12x6, therefore it cannot be more than approximately 12 inches in width and 6 inches in
height. For round openings please measure the diameter of the opening. For a 6 inch grill the
minimum opening should be approximately 5 1/2 inch diameter. For square opening, please
measure one of the sides. For 8 inch square opening the minimum opening size can be
approximately 7 1/2 inches and maximum 8 inches.
Based on the duct opening size please determine the size of register that will fit. Do not
measure the front (larger width and length) dimensions of register. The reverse side with
damper fits the floor duct opening.
Step 3 - Install the correct size grille, register or diffuser over the opening. Floor registers do
not require screws for installation
