D EVICE S ETUP Inside the Shipping Carton • CAUTION Do not use the device outdoors. The device is not waterproof or dustproof and is intended for indoor use only. Any damage to the unit from exposure to rain or dust may void any warranty. Personal Security The e235 is a handover device. Always exercise extreme caution when Considerations conducting transactions, especially during PIN entry. • Hand over the e235 device directly to the cardholder for PIN entry.
D EVICE S ETUP Inside the Shipping Carton 4 Save the shipping carton and packing material for future repacking or moving of the device. 5 Remove and inspect the following items: • e235 unit • USB-C cable (Lightning-USB-C cable is not supported) 6 Remove the clear protective film from the unit. CAUTION Do not use a tampered or damaged unit. The terminal comes equipped with tamper-evident labels.
D EVICE S ETUP Device Features Device Features Before you continue the installation process, familiarize yourself with the features of the e235. (See Figure 2) Front Panel The front panel includes the following features: MAGNETIC STRIPE READER LCD DISPLAY KEYPAD SMART CARD READER Figure 2 e235 Device Features (Front Panel) • A colored capacitive-touch LCD Display • Two types of keys: a Telephone style keypad (keypads may vary in style).
D EVICE S ETUP Removing the Battery Cover Removing the Battery Cover Remove the battery cover to access the battery as well as the micro SIM and micro SAM slots. 1 Turn off the device. 2 Place the device upside down on a soft, clean surface to protect the screen from scratches. 3 If installed, loosen the retaining screw. 4 Slide the battery cover, away from the magnetic card reader.
D EVICE S ETUP Initial Battery Charging 3 Reinstall the battery cover back and if it was previously installed, reinstall and tighten the retaining screw. SIM2/SAM SIM1 Figure 4 Initial Battery Charging Inserting the SIM After unpacking your e235 device, connect the power pack to the unit for eight hours or until fully charged. The battery has a safety circuit to protect the Li-ion cells from overcharging and over-discharging.
D EVICE S ETUP Using the Battery To manually shut down, hold the red key down for about 4 seconds until the device screen stays blank. NOTE The e235 device will only operate when the battery is installed unless connected to AC power, for example, in a stand. Using the The e235 device uses a single-cell Li-ion battery with the following features: Battery • The battery has a safety circuit that: • Prevents cell damage from overcharge, over-discharge, or overheating.
D EVICE S ETUP Using the Battery • A battery subjected to an extremely low air pressure that may result in an explosion or the leakage of flammable liquid or gas. Battery Life Charging and discharging the e235 battery hundreds of times will wear out the battery. Significantly reduced operating times indicate the need for battery replacement (see Accessories and Documentation for ordering information). WARNING Do not dispose of batteries in a fire.
D EVICE S ETUP Using the Battery 3 Set the rear cover of the Folio-equipped e235 device against the front face of the wireless charger. NOTE When the e235 device is fitted with the Folio accessory, the Folio has inductive charging that allows charging from any Qi charger. Verifone provides specific accessories, as well (see Accessories and Documentation for ordering information).
D EVICE S ETUP Connecting to a Computer 2 Insert the Micro-USB cable into the port located on the side of the e235. Figure 5 Connecting the e235 to a Wall-mount Charger Connecting to a Connect the e235 device to a PC or laptop to download applications. Computer 1 Insert the USB-C plug into the USB-C port of the e235 device. 2 Connect the other end of the USB-C plug into the host computer’s USB port.
