DIGGING HOLES FOR GROUND ANCHORS
Mark the locations of the rails and the anchor holes on the ground. You may want to drive small stakes at the ends and
several down the side of the base rails to mark the location. Move the base rails to one side and dig 8” diameter holes at
each anchor point. Use a post hole digger to dig the holes. You may want to rent a gas-powered post hole digger with an
8” diameter auger for this job. The depth of the hole will depend on the Wind speed in your county and the type of soil
that you have. See the chart below to determine the hole depth that you will need.
ANCHORING
Lay the base rails on their side and assemble a Versatube ground anchor in every base rail anchor hole. See illustration
for anchor parts. (The distance you place the anchor plate from the end of the threaded rod will depend on the hole
depth. See the chart below.) Re-position base rail assemblies over the holes dropping the anchors into each hole. Re-
measure to make sure the rails are in the proper location. Tap the anchors down into the holes until the washer touches
the top of the base rail.
Now, return the dirt to the holes about 6” at a time tamping the dirt down with a 2x4 or a baseball bat as you go. Tamp
from both sides of the base rail to keep the rail from shifting. Continue to check your measurements as you secure each
anchor.
