4. Keypad
These 16 keys generate DTMF tones during transmission.
In the receive mode, these 16 keys can be used for direct frequency entry.
The [A], [B], [C], and [D] keys replicate the functions of the front panel keys ([BANDS],
[X], [BANDT], and [SELECT]), and also the [*] and [#] keys replicate the functions of
the top panel keys ([TOPT] and [F]).
Basic Operation
Turning the Transceiver On and Off
1. To turn the transceiver on, press and hold in the top panel’s [POWER] key for two
seconds.
When you turn on the transceiver, the current date is indicated on the LCD for 2
seconds. After this interval, the display will switch its normal indication of the
operating frequency.
2. To turn the transceiver off, again press and hold in the [POWER] key for two
seconds.
Adjusting the Audio Volume Level
1. Press the [SELECT] key until the red lamp to the left of the DIAL knob will be
illuminates. Now, the DIAL knob becomes volume knob.
2. Rotate the DIAL knob to adjust the receiver volume. Clockwise rotation increases
the audio output level. The volume level displays on the LCD while rotating the
DIAL knob.
3. Press the [SELECT] key again, the DIAL knob returns dial knob.
Note: 1) The FTM-10R includes an automatic volume level controller to allow the most
comfortable and/or effective reception in noisy environments. See page ?? for details.
2) If you select the VFO-VOL feature to “AUTO” mode via the Menu Item “F45
VFO-VOL,” the DIAL knob returns to the “dial” function automatically after adjusting
the volume level.
Adjusting the Squelch Setting
1. Press and hold the [SELECT] key for one second to activate the Menu (SET) mode.
2. Rotate the DIAL knob to select Menu Item “F34 SQL.LEVEL.”
3. Press the [X] key to enable adjustment of the squelch threshold level. The current
