For most users, the default settings are ok. However, there are
three settings in particular that many users might want to change
at this stage:
Changing the Default Password
When Raspbian is installed, it creates a new user called pi. The
default password for this user is raspberry.
To change this:
1. Press the Down Arrow key to highlight Change
User Password, and then press Enter.
Hostname Change the name given to the Pi when it is
connected to a local network. This can be useful
when searching for the device, or when you have
several Raspberry Pi devices.
Memory Split The Pi’s memory is shared between the CPU and
GPU. You can change how much memory is
allocated to the GPU using this setting.
SSH Enable or disable SSH access.
SPI When connecting certain SPI devices, it can be
useful to load the SPI kernel module when the Pi
starts. Use this setting to change whether the
module is loaded automatically.
I2C When connecting I2C devices, it can be useful to
load the I2C kernel module when the Pi starts. Use
this setting to change whether the module is
loaded automatically.
Serial Enables login to a command line through the Pi’s
serial port on the GPIO pins.
Audio Used to send the audio signal to the audio output
connector, even when using an HDMI cable for
video.
Update Connects to the Internet and updates the raspi-
config tool to the latest version.
