Opening and Closing Applications
On the Raspbian Menu, you can see that many applications are
already installed on your system.
There are several ways of running applications in Raspbian, but
the three most common are: clicking icons on the Application
Launcher, using the Menu, and opening an application from the
command line.
For example, to open the web browser Epiphany:
• On the Application Launcher, click Epiphany Web
Browser; or
• Click the Raspbian Menu button. Point to Internet,
and then click Web Browser; or
• From a command-line terminal running in the desktop
environment, type epiphany and then press Enter.
If you run applications from the command line, you will return to
the prompt when they are finished. With applications that open
a window in the graphical environment, you can close them in
three ways:
3 Task Bar. Open applications are shown as an icon and title in this
area. If you minimize an application window, you can click the icon
in the Task Bar to restore the window to full view.
4 Wastebasket. Contains files that you delete using the File Manager.
If you want to undelete a file (or permanently delete it), open the
Wastebasket.
5 Network monitor. Shows the current status of your network
connection.
6 Volume control. Sets the volume of all sound and music that the Pi
plays. Click this icon to open a slider, and then click the icon again
to close the slider.
7 CPU monitor. Shows how much work the Pi’s processor is doing, as
a percentage of its maximum capability.
8 Clock. Shows the current time. Click this icon to open a calendar,
and then click the icon again to close the calendar.
