INTRODUCTION Overview Your new digital video camera is a miniature camcorder that will capture motion video as well as 2 megapixel still images. Using the 1.5" TFT color image LCD monitor, you can record images and then review them in detail. 64MB internal (built-in) memory lets you capture and store video and images without the need for an additional memory card. However, you may wish to expand the memory capacity of your camera (up to 512 MB) by purchasing a Secure Digital (SD) memory card.

GETTING STARTED You can use 2 AA size batteries (Alkaline, Ni-MH), one CR-V3 or an AC power adapter (optional accessory) to power your DV camera. Battery power is convenient for capturing images or video clips while an AC power adapter is useful when transferring images to your computer. Installing the batteries 1. Slide the battery cover downward (away from the lens). 2. Insert the batteries, noting correct polarity (+ or -). 3. Close the battery cover.
Using an AC power adapter (optional accessory) 1. Connect one end of the AC power adapter to the jack labeled “DC IN”. 2. Connect the other end to an electrical outlet. Note: Make sure to use only the AC power adapter specified for the camera. Damage caused by the use of an incorrect adapter is not covered under the warranty. Using an AC power adapter while transferring images to your computer prevents unexpected automatic power off of the camera.
Inserting an SD memory card (optional accessory) The camera comes with 64MB of internal memory, allowing you to record video clips and captured images. However, you may expand the memory capacity by using an optional Secure Digital (SD) memory card so you can store more images and video clips. 1. Slide the battery cover downward (away from the lens) 2. Insert the SD memory card pins-first, so that the label of the card faces the battery.
Turning on your digital video camera 1. Swing the LCD panel away from the camera body. 2. Press and hold the power/menu button on the top to turn on your camera. Hold the power button for about two seconds. To turn off your digital video camera, press again power/menu button. Hold the power button for about four seconds.
CAPTURING STILL IMAGES Basic settings Digital zoom (Preview) Using the digital zoom, the image in the LCD display can be enlarged by pressing the (T) telephoto button so that the subject appears closer or appears further away by pressing the (W) wide-angle button. Note although the image in the LCD may be zoomed up to 2.5x, the still-image will be captured at 1X (no zoom.) 1. Turn on your digital video camera. 2. Open the LCD monitor. 3. Press the (T) telephoto button to activate the zoom function.
Self-timer Use the self-timer when taking group shots.The self-timer duration is 10 seconds. After the self-timer is set, the shutter automatically releases after 10 seconds. The self-timer LED starts blinking slowly for 7 seconds and then rapidly for the last 3 seconds.The self-timer can be used for still-images, not videos. 1. Secure your camera on a tripod or place it on a stable surface. 2. Turn on your camera. 3. Compose the picture. 4. Press the self-timer button.
flash The flash is designed to function automatically when lighting conditions warrant the use of flash. You can capture an image using a suitable flash mode to your circumstances.The flash works only with still images and is disabled when capturing a video. 1. Turn on your camera. 2. Image resolution and quality You can select resolution and compression settings for your still images. You may select still image resolution of either 1600x1200 and 800x600. Use 1600 x 1200 higher resolution if you prefer a larger print. However, this will also produce a larger file size. You may also specify an image compression setting, selecting from Super Fine, Fine, and Normal. Higher quality images will yield better images, but require more memory space.
Number of recordable images The frame counter indicates the approximate number of images that can be stored in the internal memory (or SD memory card ) at the current image quality and resolution settings. The number of recordable images will vary depending on the recorded subject (scene complexity) and the capacity of the memory card.
RECORD MODE Recording video clips The digital video camera records MPEG-4 video at a resolution of 320x240 pixels at a frame rate of 25 fps. 1. PLAYBACK MODE In the playback mode, you can view, magnify, protect, and delete images. You can even run a slide show. Playback mode also provides a thumbnail image display, allowing you quickly search for the image or movie you want. Viewing images 1. Turn on your camera. 2. Press the playback/ pause button. 3. Zoom playback While reviewing your still-images, you may enlarge (zoom -in) a selected portion of the image. This magnification allows you to view fine details. 1. Displaying thumbnail images This function allows you to view up to nine thumbnail images on the LCD monitor simultaneously so that you can quickly scan for a particular image. 1. Slide show display The slide show function enables you to play your images back automatically in sequential order as a slide show. This is a very useful and entertaining feature reviewing recorded images and for presentations. 1. Turn on your camera. 2. Press the playback/ pause button. 3. Press the power/menu button. 4. Deleting video clips and images Your still-images and video clips are stored in either internal memory, or on an SD memory card. Whenever a memory card is inserted, the camera will automatically use the card, exclusively, in preference to internal memory. If the card is removed, the camera will revert to using internal memory. It is possible to have images stored on both card and internal memory.
Delete all video clips/images at once 1. Press the playback/ pause button to view the recorded video clips/ images. 2. Press the menu button. 3. Select Playback menu by using the 4. Protecting video clips/images You can protect video clips or images from accidental erasure by selecting the protection function in the Playback menu. Select Protect by using the or buttons, and press the button. 5. Use the or buttons to select ” One image” and then press the button.
SYSTEM CONNECTIONS Installing the USB Driver on a Windows PC The USB driver on the CD-ROM is exclusively for Windows 98 Second Edition. Windows 2000, Me, XP computers do not need to install the USB driver. 1. Insert the product CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. The welcome screen appears. 2. Click “Install USB Driver”. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. After the USB driver installation is complete, restart your computer.
Open the “removable disk” and subsequent folders by double clicking on them. Double click on the folder. Your images are inside these folder(s). Select the images that you want, then choose “Copy” from the “Edit” menu. Open the destination location (folder) and choose “Paste” from the “Edit” menu. You may also drag and drop image files from the camera to a desired location. Note: Memory card users may prefer to use a memory card reader (highly recommended).

Insert the CD-ROM packaged with the camera into the CD-ROM drive.
Installing WinDVD Creator SVCD WinDVD Creator is an easy-use software to help you to edit recorded video clips and make your own DVDs. WinDVD Creator lets you easily transfer your recorded videos from a camcorder, add picture, music, titles, transitions between scenes, special effects or edit the length you prefer. This program also includes Automatic Scene Detection that automatically breaks up the video you transfer into both short clips and scenes. To Install WinDVD Creator SVCD 1.
Menu Options Record Menu You can use the Record menu to select istill-mage size(resolution), image quality or video quality. You can also adjust exposure, white balance or ISO speed. To access the Record menu, press the button.
Image size Set the desired image size. 1600 x 1200 800 x 600 Image quality Set the still-image quality (compression ratio) at which the image is saved. Super fine Fine Normal Video quality Set the video quality (compression ratio) at which the video clip is saved.
Exposure Your DV camera adjusts the exposure of each scene automatically. However, if the subject is very dark, or very bright, you may override the DV camera automatic exposure determination to make the subject brighter or darker. This is called EV compensation. The EV compensation of your DV camera can be adjusted from -1.8EV to +1.8EV in 0.3EV step. To select the EV compensation you wish, first press the button. or buttons Increase or decrease the EV compensation and press the to confirm.
White balance The human eye adapts to changes in light so that white objects still appear white even when the light changes. With DV camera, however, the color of the subject is influenced by the color of the light surrounding it. This color adjustment is called “white balance adjustment”. This setting allows you to set the white balance when taking photographs under specific lighting condition. To set the white balance, first press the button.
ISO You may specify the ISO to be used when an image is taken. A higher ISO sensitivity value increases the camera’s sensitivity to light. However, higher ISO also introduces more noise (speckles) into the image. With a higher sensitivity selected, images can be taken with less light. To set the ISO speed, first press the button. Then choose the ISO speed you or button, then press OK button to confirm.
Setup Menu You can select your preferences and DV camera settings in Setup mode. Press the power button and navigate to the option you wish to configure by using the or buttons. Setup menu items: Format, Beep, Speaker, LCD brightness, Power off, Reset to default, Date type, Date setup, Date imprint, Video out, Light freq. and Language.
Format This option formats the internal memory (or SD memory card) and erases all stored images and data. To perform the format function, first press the button. Then select [No] or [Yes] by using the or buttons, then press OK button to confirm. A progress bar displays the formatting progress.
Speaker Volume You may adjust the volume of the speaker - used when movies are played back. To set the sound level, first press the button. Then increase or decrease the sound using the button to confirm. OK The volume level can be adjusted from 0 to 5. or buttons, then press LCD brightness This option adjusts the brightness of the LCD monitor. To adjust the LCD brightness, first press the button. Then increase or decrease the LCD brightness by using the or buttons, then press OK button to confirm.
Power off If your DV camera is unused for a certain period of time while the camera is powered on, the DV camera will switch to an idle mode, and eventually turn itself off to conserve power. Date type You can select the date type that is imprinted on your image. To set the date type, first press the type you prefer by using the or press OK button to confirm. button. Then select the date buttons and then [Y/M/D] : Year/Month/Day [D/M/Y] : Day/Month/Year [M/D/Y] : Month/Day/Year Date setup After removing the batteries from the camera, the date and time will return to the default setting. If this happens, you may reset the date and time.
Video out frequence You can view your images on a TV or record them to a video tape. Remember to select the video output standard appropriate to your location. To set this option, first press the button. Then using the or button to select your TV receiving system [NTSC] or [PAL] and then press OK button to confirm. [NTSC] : Select this format when located in the U.S.A., Canada, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Central America or Mexico.
Playback menu Use the Playback menu to transfer your recorded video clips/captured images to a memory card or to create an on-camera slide show displaying. You may also use the Playback menu to protect or delete all images from the camera’s memory card or an internal memory. To access the Playback menu, press the button first and then press the button. Scroll through the menu options by using the / button. Playback menu items: Protect, Delete all, Slide show and Copy to card.
