DTV Transition Advisory The nationwide switch to digital television broadcasting was complete on June 12, 2009. Analog-only television sets that receive TV programming through an antenna now need a converter box to continue to receive over-the-air TV. 1 Installing the TV Inspecting the Package Contents Installing the TV Before installing your new TV, take a moment to inspect the package contents. Use the images below to ensure nothing is missing or damaged. After removing the TV from the box and inspecting the package contents you can begin installing the TV.
1 Installing the Base Removing the Base 1 1 Slots on TV Gently lift this tab If you plan to wall mount the TV, you will need to remove the base. Align the 8 tabs on the base with the 8 slots on the bottom of the TV. To remove the base, gently lift the wide tab. 2 2 Press here while sliding forward. Press down on one side of the base and gently slide forward until you feel it click into place. While gently lifting the tab, gently slide one side of the base away from TV.
1 Installing the TV on a Wall To mount your TV on a wall, you will need a wall mount. 2 Replacing Batteries Replacing the Batteries 1. Remove the battery cover. 2. Insert two batteries into the remote control. Make sure that the (+) and (-) symbols on the batteries match the (+) and (-) symbols inside the battery compartment. 3. Replace the battery cover. • Use only good quality batteries. • Inserting the batteries incorrectly may result in cracking or leakage that may cause a fire or result in injury.
3 Connecting Your Devices Connecting A Device (E191VA & E221VA) Your TV can be used to display output from most devices. 1. Verify that your device has a video port that matches an available port on the TV (HDMI, Component, etc). Cable/Satellite Box 2. Turn the TV and your device off. 3. Connect the appropriate cable (not included) to the TV and the device. 4. Turn the TV and your device on. Set the TV’s input to match the connection you used (HDMI, Component, etc).
3 Connecting Your Devices Connecting A Device (E261VA) Your TV can be used to display output from most devices. 1. Verify that your device has a video port that matches an available port on the TV (HDMI, Component, etc). Cable/Satellite Box 2. Turn the TV and your device off. 3. Connect the appropriate cable (not included) to the TV and the device. 4. Turn the TV and your device on. Set the TV’s input to match the connection you used (HDMI, Component, etc).
3 Connecting A PC Your TV can be used to display output from a personal computer. To use your TV as a PC display: 1. Connect an RGB cable (not included) to your PC and the RGB port on the back of the TV. This cable transmits video. 2. Connect a 3.5mm cable (not included) to your PC and the PC Audio In port on the back of the TV. This cable transmits audio. 3. Set your PC’s resolution to match the resolution of your TV. See Appendix B - Specifications. Personal Computer 3.
4 Completing the First-Time Setup 4. Use the Up/Down Arrow buttons on the remote to highlight your preferred Time Zone, then press the Right Arrow. The first time you turn on the TV, the Setup App will guide you through each of the steps necessary to get your TV ready for use. Before you begin the first-time setup: • Your TV should be installed and the power cord should be connected to an electrical outlet. See Installing the TV on page 3. • Have your remote ready. Ensure the batteries are inserted.

5 Using the On-Screen Menu Your TV features an easy-to-use on-screen menu. Navigating the On-Screen Menu To open the on-screen menu, press the MENU button on the remote. You can also open the on-screen menu by pressing the VIA button and selecting HDTV Settings from the VIA Dock, then pressing OK. To open the on-screen menu, press the MENU/OK button on the remote. Use the Arrow buttons to highlight a menu option, and press the MENU/OK button to select that option.
5 Changing the Input Source Changing the Screen Aspect Ratio External devices such as DVD players, Blu-Ray Players, and video game consoles can be connected to your TV. To use one of these devices with your TV, you must first change the input source in the on-screen menu. The TV can display images in four different modes: Wide, Zoom, Normal, and Stretch. Each mode displays the picture differently. To change the input device: 1. Press the MENU button on the remote.
5 Setting Up Closed Captioning Changing the Appearance of Digital Closed Captions Digital closed captions can be displayed according to your preference. Your TV can display closed captions for programs that include them. Closed captions display a transcription of a program’s dialogue. To change the appearance of digital closed captions: 1. From the Closed Caption menu, use the Arrow buttons to highlight Digital CC Style.
5 Activating the Sleep Timer Adjusting the Picture Settings When activated, the TV’s sleep timer will turn the TV off after a set period of time. Using the Picture menu, you can adjust the following settings: • Change the picture mode To use the sleep timer: • Adjust noise reduction 1. Press the MENU button on the remote. The on-screen menu is displayed. • Enable or disable Fast Response • Enable or disable the ambient light sensor • Reset the picture mode settings 2.
5 • Retail - Sets the picture settings to values that produce a brighter, more vivid picture. Color Temperature - Changes the “warmness” or “coolness” of the white areas of the picture. • Photo - Optimizes the picture settings for viewing photo slideshows. Flesh tones should appear more natural. Reset Picture Setting - Restores custom picture settings to the factory defaults.
5 Enabling or Disabling Fast Response Enabling or Disabling the Ambient Light Sensor Enabling the Fast Response setting can often improve PC and console gaming experiences. When enabled, the ambient light sensor detects the light levels in the room to optimize the brightness of the TV’s backlight. To enable or disable Fast Response: When the ambient light sensor is enabled, you will be unable to manually change the TV’s brightness settings. 1. Press the MENU/OK button on the remote.
5 Adjusting the Audio Settings Resetting the Picture Settings To restore the TV’s picture settings to the factory defaults: Using the Audio Settings menu, you can adjust the following: 1. Press the MENU/OK button on the remote. The on-screen menu is displayed. • Enable or disable SRS TruSurroundHD™ • Enable or disable SRS TruVolume™ • Adjust the equalizer settings • Adjust bass and treble levels • Adjust speaker balance 3.
5 Enabling or Disabling SRS TruVolume Adjusting the Equalizer Settings SRS TruVolume intelligently normalizes volume fluctuations due to television commercials or channel changes. Your TV features six preset equalizer settings. These settings allow you to customize your TV’s sound to match the type of programming you most often enjoy. To enable or disable SRS TruVolume: The Equalizer Settings menu is not available when SRS TruSurroundHD is enabled. 1. Press the MENU/OK button on the remote.
5 Adjusting Bass and Treble Levels Adjusting the Speaker Balance The bass and treble levels for your TV’s built-in speakers can be adjusted to your liking. The built-in speakers can be adjusted to distribute the sound between the left and right speakers. To adjust the speaker balance: To adjust the bass and treble levels, you must disable SRS TruSurroundHD and change the Equalizer Settings to Off. To adjust the bass and treble levels: 1. Press the MENU/OK button on the remote.
5 Enabling or Disabling the Built-In Speakers Changing the Audio Language Using this menu option, you can turn the built-in speakers on or off. This is often used when the TV is connected to a home audio system. Some digital free-to-air and cable channels broadcast programs in more than one language. The TV’s MTS (Multichannel Television Sound) feature allows you to listen to audio in your preferred language.
5 Changing the TV Settings Resetting the Audio Settngs To reset the audio settings to the factory default settings: From the TV Settings Menu, you can: 1. Press the MENU/OK button on the remote. The on-screen menu is displayed. 2. Use the Arrow buttons to highlight Audio and press MENU/OK. • Set up channels • Change the on-screen menu language • Change the TV’s date and time • Adjust the TV settings for use with a PC Customizing and Removing Input Names 3.
5 Setting Up Channels 5. Use the Arrow buttons on the remote to highlight the input source you wish to rename, then press MENU/OK. From the channel menu you can: 6. Use the Arrow buttons to highlight Input Naming and press MENU/OK. The on-screen keyboard is displayed. 7. Use the Arrow and MENU/OK buttons to spell the custom input name. When you are finished, highlight OK and press MENU/OK.
5 Customizing the Master Channel List To remove all available channels from the list, highlight Unmark All and press MENU/ OK. By customizing the master channel list, you can choose which channels can be displayed. 1. Press the MENU button on the remote. The on-screen menu is displayed. To include only digital channels in the list, highlight Digital Only and press MENU/OK. 2. Use the Arrow buttons on the remote to highlight the TV icon and press MENU/OK. The TV Settings menu is displayed. 6.
5 6. Perform a channel scan. See Scanning for Channels on page 30. Customizing Channel Names Scanning for Channels For example, KBOT-DT could be renamed as Favorite. Before the TV can detect and display channels and their associated information, you must scan for channels. A channel scan may also be necessary when the TV has been moved to an area where different free-to-air broadcast television channels are available. 5 Changing the On-Screen Menu Language Setting the TV’s Date and Time Your TV can display the on-screen menu in different languages. Adjusting the Time for Daylight Savings This setting will automatically adjust the time for zones which recognize daylight savings time. 6. Press EXIT. Using this menu option, you can manually set the TV’s date and time. 2.
5 Adjusting the TV Settings for Use with A PC If you would like the TV to automatically adjust the picture for best quality, select Auto Sync and press MENU/OK. Your TV can be used to display output from a home computer using the RGB port. Setting the Parental Controls These settings are only available when viewing content from the RGB port. The TV’s parental controls allow you to prevent the TV from displaying certain channels or programs without a password.

5 Viewing System Info and Resetting to Factory Defaults Adjusting the CEC Settings The CEC function on your TV enables you to control HDMI-connected devices with the included remote without any additional programming. 5 Restoring the TV to the Factory Default Settingss Restarting the Setup App All of the on-screen menu settings can be reset to the factory defaults. The TV’s Setup App can be used to easily set up the TV tuner. 6 Using the USB Media Player Using the USB Media Player Viewing a USB Photo Slideshow To play a Photo Slideshow, you must first save your images onto a USB thumb drive. The USB Media Player allows you to connect a USB thumb drive to your TV and play music or photos.
