4 On the Domain Controller, copy the ThinApp_AdobeReader.admx to
C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions.
5Copy the ThinApp_AdobeReader.adml in C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions\en-US.
The new entry will be visible under Domains > Policy Settings.
6Right click on System and select System > Select Available Policy > Enforce.
7 Navigate to Policies > Admin Templates > VMware ThinApp Management.
8Double click AppSync.
Configure Application Synchronization for Adobe Reader
1 In the Group Policy Management Editor, navigate to Administrative Templates > VMware ThinApp >
Adobe Reader.
2Under Configure AppSync for Adobe Reader, select Enabled option.
3 Enter the values in the options pane:
SyncURL. Specifies the Web server URL or file share location that stores the updated version of an
application.
Update Frequency. Specifies how often ThinApp checks the Web server for application updates.
UpdatedMessage. Specifies the update message that appears when an updated package first starts.
ExpirePeriod. Specifies the expiration of the package in minutes, hours or days.
ExpiredMessage. Specifies a default message for the application update expiration.
Warning Period. Specifies start of the warning period before a package expires.
WarningFrequency. Specifies how often a warning appears before the package expires.
Warning Message. Specifies the message when the warning period starts.
4Click OK.
You can see all the settings configured for the AppSync. You can see the Sync URL which points to the IIS
server where the Adobe Reader X version is present. The ThinApp Packages directory contains both Adobe
Reader IX and Adobe Reader X.
Verify the Application Synchronization Application Update
1 Navigate to the ThinApp directory and build Adobe Reader IX.
2 Perform Thinreg on Adobe Reader IX using the command thinreg.exe .\Packages\Adobe Reader
9\bin\*.exe.
3Start Adobe Reader IX.
4 Navigate to bin directory and verify whether the download of Adobe Reader X is complete.
5Close Adobe Reader IX.
6Start Adobe Reader.
7Click OK in AppSync application update pop-up.
ThinApp unregisters the older version of Adobe Reader and registers the newer version. Since you have
configured AppSync to update the Adobe Reader, ThinApp contacts the IIS server where the latest version of
Adobe Reader is present and downloads it.
