You can use the import database backup feature with a VMware backup solution such as VDR to implement
an extended backup and restore solution. See “Use VMware Data Recovery to Back Up Data Director,” on
page 158.

Procedure
1 In Data Director, click the organization's tab and in the navigation pane, expand the relevant database
group to view the databases.
2 Right-click the database for which to import the backup, and select Import Backups.
3 Select the backup to import from the list and click OK.
The imported backup appears in the list of database backups when the import finishes.
Recover a Database from Last State
Data Director attempts to recover the database from its last known good state. The current database settings
and data will be unaffected. This can repair some database problems.

Procedure
1 In Data Director, select the organization and click the Manage & Monitor tab.
2 In the navigation pane, select the database group, and click the down arrow to show the list of databases.
3 Right-click the database name and select Backup and Recovery, then select Recover Database from Last
State.
4 Click OK to start the recovery process.
The database is unavailable while the recovery operation is in progress.
Data Director recovers your database from its last known good state.
