Starting up How to install your SIM/memory card Power off your phone before installing or replacing the battery, SIM card and memory card. 1. Remove the battery cover. 2. Remove the battery. 3. Hold your SIM card and memory card with the cut corner oriented as shown below and then insert it into the card holder properly.
Notes: The microSD logo is a trademark of SD Card Association. How to insert the battery 1. Insert the battery by aligning the gold contacts on the battery with the gold contacts in the battery compartment on the phone. 2. Push down the battery until it clicks into place. How to charge your mobile phone The new battery is not fully charged. To charge the battery, you need to: 1. Connect the adapter to your phone via the connector.
2. Connect the adapter to the charger jack. 3. Connect the charger to a standard AC wall outlet. Notes: ¾ If the battery is low, there will be a pop-up message on the screen. ¾ If the battery is charged, the icon will appear on the notification bar. Powering your phone on/off How to power on your phone 1.
How to power off your phone 1. Hold the Power key to get the phone options. 2. Select Power off, and then touch OK. How to switch your phone to sleep mode Press the Power key. Sleep mode puts your phone in a low power consumption state while the display is off to save battery power. Your device also goes into sleep mode automatically when you leave it idle after a certain period of time. Tips: While the device is in sleep mode, it is able to receive incoming calls, emails and messages.
Notes: If you have set an unlock pattern for your phone (see Phone Settings-Security settings-Protecting your phone with a screen lock-To set the screen unlock pattern on page 86), you need to draw the pattern to unlock your screen. How to use your phone Using touch You can use touch gestures with your fingers to control your phone. The controls on your touch screen change dynamically depending on the tasks you are performing. 1.
3. Scroll up/down by sliding your finger up or down the screen. From the Home screen you can also slide left/right to browse the extended Home Screen. 4. Drag an item to move it, or do other operations with it. 5. When viewing photos, web pages or maps, you can zoom in and out. You can double-touch to zoom in, then double- touch again to zoom out. You can also pinch your fingers together or expand them to zoom in or out. Home Screen You can add or remove home items in your Home Screen.

Location & security Enables you to set the screen unlock pattern, enable the SIM card lock, or manage the phone’s credential storage. About phone Enables you to view the phone status, battery level, legal information, etc. How to open recently used applications 1. Hold Home Key from any screen until the following recently used applications interface appears. 2. Touch an application you want to open.
Phone calls Making a call Making a call from Dialer 1. Touch > Dialer from Home Screen. 2. Enter the phone number or the contact name you want to call. Touch to erase a wrong entry, hold this key to clear all digits. Your phone automatically lists the matching numbers to hide the input box and to see or contacts. You can touch if there are more matching numbers or contacts. 3. Touch . Making a call from Contacts 1. Press Home Key > > Contacts. 2.
You can also open Call History by touching the Call log tab from the Contacts Screen. 3. Touch a recently dialed, received or missed call from the list. You can scroll down the list to see more call history. 4. Touch . Making a call from a Text Message If a text message contains a phone number that you want to call, you can make the call while viewing the text message. 1. Press Home Key > > Messages and touch the message that contains the phone number you want to call. 2. Touch the message content. 3.
4. While you are connected to the second number, press Menu Key > Merge calls. 5. To add the third party, touch Add call. 6. Dial the number, and when connected, touch Merge calls. Making an Emergency call 1. Enter the emergency number for your location from Dialer. 2. Touch . Notes: In most countries it is possible to dial emergency numbers when the SIM card is not inserted. Your SIM card may store other emergency numbers. Contact your service operator if you need more information.
Receiving a call Answering an Incoming call When there is an incoming call, the phone will display the information on the screen. Slide to right to answer the call. Rejecting an Incoming call Slide to left to reject the call. Muting a call During a call, you can mute your microphone so that the person with whom you are speaking cannot hear you, but you can still hear him or her. Touch .
When the microphone is turned off, the mute icon screen. appears on the Putting a call on Hold During a call, you can use the following methods to put the call on hold. Touch Hold on incall screen currently. The icon will be displayed if a call is on hold. If you are already on a call and accepted the new call, the first call will be put on hold automatically. You can choose to switch between the two callers by touching Swap on incall screen currently. Turning the speaker on/off Touch during a call.
Enables you to restrict outgoing calls to a fixed set of Fixed Dialing numbers. To enable this feature you must know your Numbers SIM card’s PIN2 code. Voicemail service Enables you to select a voicemail service provider. Voicemail settings Enables you to specify a voicemail number. DTMF Tones Enables you to set the length of DTMF tones. GSM/ WCDMA call settings Enables you to forward incoming calls to a different number.
Contacts Starting to use Contacts You can add new contacts along with their information. Setting up communication information for the contact will allow you to call the person quickly or browse the contact's information. Contacts are saved in the phone memory or in the SIM card. If you store the information in the SIM card, you can fill the name and a number.
Managing Contacts Importing/Exporting Contacts You can import/export contacts from/to your SIM card or microSD card. To Import/export contacts from/to SIM card 1. Press Menu Key > Import/Export from the Contacts Screen. 2. Select to import or export contacts from/to SIM card. Your Vodafone Smart Chat will automatically read the contacts. 3. Select the contacts you want to import/export. Tips: ¾ If you want to import all contacts saved in your SIM card, tip .
Creating a contact 1. Press Menu Key > New contact from the Contacts Screen. 2. Select the location to save your contact. 3. Enter the name and phone numbers. You can also set the Email addresses, Chat addresses, Postal addresses, Organizations, Notes etc. if you select to create a phone contact. 4. Touch Done to save the contact. Adding a contact to Favorites 1. Find the contact you want to add to Favorites from your Contacts Screen. 2. Hold the contact until a shortcut menu appears. 3.
Searching for a contact 1. Press Search Key from the Contacts Screen. 2. Input the contact name you want to search for. The contacts matched will be listed. Editing a contact 1. Select the contact you want to edit from the Contacts Screen. 2. Touch . Tips: You can also edit a contact by holding it in the Contacts Screen and select Edit contact from the pop-up shortcut menu. 3. Edit the contact and touch Done. Deleting a contact 1. Select the contact you want to delete from the Contacts Screen. 2. Touch .
Entering text Using the hardware keyboard Your phone has a hardware keyboard – a compact version of standard computer keyboard. When entering text, do the following: • To enter lowercase letters, press the letter keys on the hardware keyboard. • To enter a single uppercase letter, press corresponding key.

If the keyboard is enabled, it automatically appears on the screen when you enter a field that needs text. To enable the onscreen keyboard: 1. Press Home Key > 2. Tick the Android keyboard check box. 3.
• Touch the alphabetic keys to enter letters. Touch and hold some specific keys to enter associated accented letters or numbers. For example, to enter È, touch and hold and the available accented letters and number 3 appear. Then slide to choose È. • Touch to use uppercase or lowercase. This key also changes for lowercase, to indicate the current case you are using: for uppercase, and when locked in uppercase. Touch to delete the text before the cursor. • • Touch to select numbers and symbols.
Messages Messages is where all of your SMS and MMS accounts are located. To access your message accounts, Press Home Key > > Messages. Exchanging messages From Messages you can receive and send an SMS or MMS. When you receive a new message, you can open it from the Notification Panel, or from Messages Screen. Simply touch on the new message to read it. The device will alert you for the unread message(s) with the icon in the notification bar. How to compose an SMS 1. Press Home Key > > Messages. 2.
How to compose an MMS 1. Press Home Key > > Messages. 2. Touch New message. 3. Touch To field and enter the recipient’s number. You can also enter the first letters of the recipient’s name to display a list of matching names stored in Contacts, and then select a recipient from the list. 4. Press Menu Key > Add subject to enter the subject of your MMS. 5. Touch Compose message field and enter the contents of your MMS. 6. Touch to add an attachment to your MMS: Pictures: Select a picture to add to your MMS.
• If you remove the subject and attachment of your MMS, the MMS will be converted to an SMS automatically. Managing messages and messages threads SMS and MMS messages which are sent to and received from a contact (or a number) are grouped into message threads in Messages Screen. Threaded messages show your exchanged messages (similar to a chat program) with a specific contact on the screen. Message threads are sorted by the time when you received them, with the latest one on the top.
Message settings Press Menu Key > Settings from the Messages Screen. You can configure your message settings. Storage settings • Delete old messages: Select to delete old messages as limits are reached. • Text message limit: Set the maximum number of text messages allowed in a single thread. • Multimedia message limit: Set the maximum number of multimedia messages allowed in a single thread. Text message (SMS) settings • Delivery reports: Request a delivery report for each SMS message you send.
• Auto-retrieve: Select to retrieve MMS messages automatically. • Roaming auto-retrieve: Select to retrieve MMS messages automatically when you are roaming. • MMS validity: Set the validity time for MMS messages. • MMS creation mode: Set the creation mode for MMS messages. Notifications settings • Notifications: Select to display message notifications in the notification bar. • Group Msg Notifications: Select to display group message notifications in status bar.
If there is a pre-stored email account in your phone, you may use the default account to send and receive emails directly. How to create an Email account 1. If there is a pre-stored email account in your phone,you may touch the email address name or press Menu Key > More > Accounts from the Email Screen, and then press Menu Key > Add account. 2. Enter your Email address and password, and then touch Next when you enter the Email Screen for the first time. 3.
4. 5. 6. 7. If you touch Next[Check], your phone will check the incoming server settings and finish the setup automatically. If you are notified that setup could not be finished, you might need to correct some settings to finish it. If there is any problem, please contact your mobile service provider and Email service provider. Edit the outgoing server settings and touch Next. If you touch Next[Check], your phone will check the outgoing server settings and finish the setup automatically.
How to compose and send an Email After creating an email account, you can compose and send email messages. 1. Press Menu Key > Compose from the Email Screen. 2. Touch To field and enter your recipient’s address. When you enter the address, the matching addresses saved in your Contacts will be displayed. You can touch the recipient from the list. Tips: You can also press Menu Key > Add Cc/Bcc to add recipients. 3. Enter the subject and the content of your email. 4. Touch Send.
Email settings Touch the account you want to set from the Email Screen and press Menu Key > More > Account settings. You can get the email settings. General settings • Account name: Set your account name. • Your name: Set the name displayed on outgoing message. • Email address: Set the email address. • Use signature: Select to use signature for emails. • Signature: Edit the signature for emails. • Use reply to: Select to use reply to email address. • Reply to: Edit reply to email address.
• Sync deleted message: Select to be synchronise deleted message with server. Notification settings • Email notifications: Select to be notified in notification bar when email arrives. • Select ringtone: Select the ringtone for incoming email notification. • Vibrate: Select to be notified by vibration with ringtones when email arrives. Server settings • Incoming settings: Set the incoming server settings. • Outgoing settings: Set the outgoing server settings.
Getting connected Connecting to the internet Your phone’s networking capabilities allow you to access the Internet or your corporate network. Ways of connecting to the internet You can use the default connection settings to connect to the Internet through your mobile network (GPRS/3G/EDGE), or Wi-Fi. GPRS/3G/EDGE Use GPRS/3G/EDGE to connect to the Internet and to send and receive MMS/Email messages on your phone. You will need a data plan to use your wireless service provider’s GPRS/3G/EDGE network.
> Settings > Wireless & networks > 1. Press Home Key > Mobile networks > Network Settings > Access Point Names. 2. Press Menu Key > New APN. 3. Touch Name to enter you APN name (You can name it as you like). 4. Touch APN to enter the APN you want to add. 5. Touch Proxy and Port to enter the Server IP and port if the network uses a proxy server. 6. Touch and enter Username and Password (If there is no User name and Password, leave them blank). 7. Touch and enter APN type if needed. 8.
The Wi-Fi network names and security settings (open network or secured network) of detected Wi-Fi networks are displayed in the Wi-Fi networks section. You can also press Menu Key > Scan to scan the Wi-Fi networks. 2. Touch a network to connect. ¾ If you select an open network, you will be automatically connected to the network. ¾ If you select a secured network, you will need to input the wireless password.
Using browser You can use your Browser to browse most of the websites. Some web pages may not be displayed properly as some specific web page technologies, such as Flash, are not supported by the phone. Your phone will automatically create an EDGE or GPRS/3G connection for you while browsing web pages. How to open browser Press Home Key > > Browser to start this function. How to open web pages In Browser you can open web pages through the following ways: 1.
Your phone automatically copies the selected text to the clipboard. 4. Press Menu Key > More > Share page to send the page by Email, Google Mail, Messages, or RoadSync Mail. 5. Press Menu Key > More > Page info/Downloads to view the page or download information. Note: You can double-touch to zoom in, then double-touch again to zoom out. You can also pinch to zoom in or out.
2. Touch a link to open the page. You can also hold on the link to open the shortcut menu: ¾ Open: Open the web page. ¾ Open in new window: Open the web page in a new window. ¾ Bookmark link: Save the link to your Bookmarks. ¾ Save link: Download the linked web page to your phone. ¾ Share link: Send the link by Email, Google Mail, Messages, or RoadSync Mail. ¾ Copy link URL: Copy the link to the clipboard. To download applications from web pages 1. Open a web page that contains an application link. 2.

Press Menu Key > More > Bookmarks. 3. Select an item you want to edit and hold on it until the shortcut menu pops up. 4. Select Edit bookmark. 5. Edit the name or location, and then touch OK to save it. To delete a bookmark 1. Open a Browser window. 2. Press Menu Key > More > Bookmarks. 3.
• Open pages in overview: Select to show overview of newly opened pages. • Text encoding: Select a text encoding type. • Block pop-up windows: Select to block pop-up windows. • Load images: Select to show the images of web pages. • Enable power save mode: Select to reduce display power consumption by inverting webpage colors. • Auto-fit pages: Select to format the web pages to fit the screen. • Enable JavaScript: Select to enable JavaScript. • Enable plug-ins: Select to enable plug-ins.
• Clear location access: Select to clear access for all websites. Security settings • Remember passwords: Select to save usernames and passwords for web sites. • Clear passwords: Clear the saved passwords. • Show security warnings: Select to show warnings if there is a problem with a site’s security. Advanced settings • Set search engine: Select a search engine. • Website settings: View advanced settings for individual websites. • Reset to default: Clear all browser data and reset all settings to default.
Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communication technology. Phones with Bluetooth capabilities can exchange information within a distance of about 10 meters without any physical connection. The Bluetooth devices must be paired before the communication is performed. How to turn on/off bluetooth 1. Press Home Key > > Settings > Wireless & networks. 2. Select the Bluetooth check box to turn Bluetooth on. The icon will be displayed in the notification bar.
Note: Bluetooth visibility is turned off automatically after 2 minutes. How to change your device name 1. Press Home Key > > Settings > Wireless & networks > Bluetooth settings. 2. Select the Bluetooth check box if needed. 3. Touch Device name. 4. Enter the name and touch OK. How to pair with another bluetooth device You can pair your device with another device that has Bluetooth capabilities.
Experiencing multimedia Camera Your phone comes with a 3–megapixel camera that lets you capture sharp pictures. How to open Camera Press Home Key > > Camera or hold Camera Key to open the camera. Notes: You can switch from the camera to the camcorder quickly by dragging the switch up. How to take pictures Aim the camera at the subject and then touch or press Camera Key to take the shot. You can touch to adjust the brightness and touch open the zoom list to zoom in or out before taking pictures.
¾ ¾ Touch the picture in the top right corner of your Camera Screen to view the picture just captured. Press Menu Key > Gallery to view all of your pictures. Camera settings By pressing from the Camera Screen, you can adjust the camera settings. Camera settings • Exposure: Touch to adjust the exposure. • Picture size: Touch to select the size of your captured pictures. • Picture quality: Touch to adjust the jpeg quality. • Color effect: Touch to select the picture effect.
• • • Camera settings: Restore the camera settings to default. Store location: Select to record location in picture data. White balance: Touch to adjust the white balance. White balance enables the camera to capture colors more accurately by adjusting to the current lighting environment. Camcorder Camcorder enables you to shoot video clips. How to open Camcorder Touch > Camcorder to open the camcorder. Notes: You can switch from the camcorder to the camera quickly by dragging the switch down.
