If the ATP lamp is ‘‘ON’’, this
indicates that the automatic
transmission ‘‘park’’ position will
not function and the transfer shift
lever is in the ‘N’’ position. Fail-
ure to engage the transfer shift
lever in ‘‘H’’ or ‘4LO’’ could re-
sult in the vehicle moving unex-
pectedly, resulting in serious
personal injury or property dam-
age.

While warming up the engine,
idling speed becomes high. Be
especially careful when starting
or driving on slippery surfaces.
CAUTION
Do not drive the vehicle in the ‘H’’
(LOCK) or ‘4LO’’ position on dry
pavement. Doing so will apply an
undue strain on the 4WD mecha-
nism, resulting in damage. It also
may cause premature wear to the
tires or increase fuel consumption.
Transfer shift lever
Move the transfer shift lever to the ‘‘H’’ or
‘‘4LO’’ position, depending on operating con-
ditions.
Shifting the transfer shift lever
1. Stop the vehicle.
2. Move the selector lever to the ‘‘N’’ position.
3. Move the transfer shift lever from ‘‘H’’ to
‘‘4LO’’ or from ‘4LO’’ to ‘H’’ position.
Transfer ‘4LO’’ indicator light will
come on when the transfer shift lever is
set in the ‘‘4LO’’ position with the
ignition key in the ‘ON’’ position.
