Owner`s manual
WARNING
If the ATP lamp is ‘‘ON’’, this indi-
cates that the automatic transmis-
sion ‘‘park’’ position will not func-
tion and the transfer shift lever is in
the ‘‘N’’ position. Failure to engage
the transfer shift lever in ‘‘H’’ or
‘‘4LO’’ could result in the vehicle
moving unexpectedly, resulting in
serious personal injury or property
damage.
CAUTION
O
Never shift the transfer shift lever
while the vehicle is moving.
O
Shift the transfer shift lever
quickly and smoothly when mov-
ing across the ‘‘N’’ position with
the vehicle stopped.
4WD shift switch
O The 4WD shift switch is effected when the
transfer shift lever is set to the ‘‘H’’
position.
O The 4WD shift switch is shifted to either
the 2WD, AUTO or LOCK position, de-
pending on driving conditions.
Operating the 4WD shift switch
1. Set the steering wheel to the straight-
ahead position.
If the 4WD shift switch is operated
while making a turn, accelerating or
decelerating or if the key switch is
turned off while in the 4WD mode, you
may feel a jerk. This is not abnormal.
2. Turn the knob to the 2WD, AUTO or LOCK
position.
O With the knob set to the AUTO position,
distribution of torque to the front and rear
wheels changes automatically, depending
on road conditions encountered. This re-
sults in improved driving stability.
When the vehicle is stopped after mak-
ing a turn, you may feel a slight jolt
after the selector lever is shifted to ‘‘N’’
or ‘‘P’’. This is because the transfer
clutch is released and not because of a
malfunction.
