Selector Lever Positions
P – Parking
To move the selector lever out of the “P”
position, the ignition must be turned on. In
addition, the brake pedal and the locking
button on the selector lever must be
pressed.
The ignition key can be removed only when
the lever is in this position.
R – Reverse
The locking button on the selector lever
must be pressed to shift into reverse.
N – Neutral
The transmission is idling in this position.
If the selector lever is in this position for a
long time, the Shift Lock Solenoid N110 for
the selector lever becomes active and the
brake pedal must be pressed to activate
the lever.
No power is being transmitted to
the wheels.
D – Drive
In this position, the forward gears are
shifted automatically.
S – Sport
The Transmission Control Module J217
selects gears automatically according to a
sporty shifting characteristic curve. The
shift points occur at higher engine speeds
resulting in longer intervals in each gear and
brisker acceleration.
