5. Operation
Charge only nickel metal hydride (NiMH) and nickel cadmium (NiCd) rechargeable
batteries with this device. Never recharge non-rechargeable batteries! Do not use
the charger for charging rechargeable alkaline batteries (RAM).
Never short-circuit the charging contacts or rechargeable batteries!
It is normal that the rechargeable batteries heat up during charging. Handle recently
recharged rechargeable batteries with care.
Charge only rechargeable batteries which are suitable for the charging current of
500 mA (Mignon) or 250 mA (micro).
A) Power supply
Plug the charger into a 100-240 V socket.
The LED (5) flashes red once.
B) Charging rechargeable batteries
Place rechargeable batteries of the same capacity and size in the charger by pairs. -
Set the “2/4” selector switch (2) to choice charging two or four rechargeable batteries. If only two -
rechargeable batteries are being charged, place them in the two left shafts of the charger.
Always observe correct polarity of the rechargeable batteries, i.e., connect the
positive pole of the rechargeable batteries to the positive terminals (1) and the
negative pole to the negative terminals (3 or 4) (“+” = positive; “–” = negative).
Only two or four rechargeable batteries can be inserted in the charger. If one or
three rechargeable batteries are inserted, charging will not start.
After inserting the rechargeable batteries, the charger performs an automatic rechargeable battery -
test. If a rechargeable battery pair cannot be charged by the UFC-1S, or if a non-rechargeable
battery is inserted by accident, the charging status LED (5) flashes red. Remove the defective
rechargeable battery/batteries from the UFC-1S and dispose of it/them in accordance with the
legal regulations.
If the rechargeable batteries are functional, the charger will automatically initiate quick charging -
process. This is indicated by the charging status LED (5) illuminating in red.
After the rechargeable batteries have been fully charged, the charger automatically switches the -
charging mode to trickle charging. This is indicated by the charging status LED (5) illuminating
in green.
The rechargeable batteries can be removed from the UFC-1S and are ready to be used. -
However, the rechargeable batteries do not have to be removed from the charger
immediately after the charging process (the LED(5) illuminating in green) has been
completed. The Minus Delta V detection and trickle charging function prevent the
rechargeable batteries being overcharged.
