Vehicle brake lights are always on when transmission
retarder is active.
For complete warnings and instructions, refer to the Allison
Transmission manual.
STARTING THE ENGINE
Start Procedure
For cold weather starting, see “COLD WEATHER
OPERATION” on page 347.
These starting and operating procedures should be followed for all
engines. For more detailed information about design and function on a
non-Volvo engine, read the operator's manual from the engine
manufacturer.
Before starting the engine, see “Instruments and
Controls” section for detailed information on how the
gauges and tell-tales work.
DO NOT use ether or other combustible starting
aids in any Volvo engine. Introduction of ether or
similar starting aids could cause a fire or
explosion resulting in severe property damage,
serious personal injury or death.
